sheeko sheeko sheeko xariir once upon a time there was a girl with big yellow shoes named QOSLAY… a short film following a young clown who feels out of place in her own home and stumbles across Somali folktales in search of belonging. In theatrical performances, cinematic storytelling, humor, and curiosity, she encounters tales of power, fairness, riddles, and dance through folktales: Lion Share, Wiil Waal, and Dheghdeer’s Daughter. Through Somali folklore and clownism, QOSLAY is a playful and poetic journey about what it means to belong in your own story. NAFTA NEEF SII — a visual art exhibition by @sabrsaturn for Soomaal’s aragti wadaag residency 🌙 this was a project made so tenderly and lovingly, and i’m so honoured to have witnessed it come to life the way it has 💐 the short film started as a vision in sabrin’s gorg mind, and with their trust, we got to watch it basically catapult itself into reality. it made me think and feel so deeply at every step, we had so many long convos along the way, and i hope it did the same for everyone who’s seen it ✨ if you haven’t yet, we’re hosting a screening + community conversation this Saturday at 7pm @ Soomaal House of Art come thru :)
