Drawing the moment as it happens 🎨

I recently hosted a conversation with illustrator Sue Dray @suedraylcf curated by @meihuiliu8 at @malavendacafe.london café, exploring imagination, inspiration and the energy of live painting.

We discussed Sue’s 40+ year career: from feminist publications to Vivienne Westwood’s backstage, catwalk and live model painting and the evolution of her style from restrained to bold, expressive freedom.

Capturing character, mood and movement remains at the heart of her work. And yes, we talked about her dream of being in a rock band too! 🎸

Special thanks to @calumminuti for the filming skills 🎥

FIRST WEDNESDAY, BUT WE MADE IT DRAG 👠🎨

Last Wednesday we turned @lighthouse_soho into our very own life drawing studio — and honestly, you had to be there.

Hosted by @ryanlanji & @annasmithson_curator, we welcomed two incredible queens from the new season of @dragraceukbbc Series 8, @feeltheflesh & @mocha.dragqueen, who served POSE after POSE while we attempted to put it all on paper.

Led by the brilliant @calumminuti, everyone received their own artist kit and spent the evening drawing, drinking and discovering a different side of Soho’s art world, fused with its vibrant queer scene.

A huge thank you to @cassart1984 for supporting the evening, @eyechainz for partnering with us, @lighthouse_soho for giving us a home, and everyone who came and made the room feel so special.

THIS is what First Wednesdays is about: art without the awkwardness, culture without the velvet rope, and bringing brilliant people together every first Wednesday of the month.

See you in October x x

1/4 Officially wed in a 900 year old church in Northamptonshire & celebrated with loved ones in my husband’s (lol) parents’ garden. I did not know my heart could expand so much in a day or that my face could just be one big consective smile. Me & Ollie could not have imagined a better day. We feel so lucky.
Of the guests, many had travelled from all over England to attend our garden party & even over a 100 of those guests had flown in from around world - from almost every continent (!).
My sister told me when she was preparing her wedding she was skeptical of the saying ‘it’s the best day of your life’ - but she understood it once she felt the overwhelming sensation of being in a room with people you love/heatstrings weaving from various stages of your life - & they’re here - to celebrate the you, your marriage - but also the love you have for one another. Building community, nurting these connections, family bonds & friendships that feel like home - that are also in an ever state of transformation just like ourselves.
Seeing all these heartstring scattered over the lawn interacting, laughing & dancing with each other. My heart just sang with joy. We transfer pieces of our hearts to those we love & treasure theirs.
A few days prior, I picked out a wedding ring we saw in a tiny shopwindow in the square with used jewelry; a silver band that has the carving ‘Love is all around’ - t’was perfect. I now look at the band alongside my engagement ring (where I think of my wonderful husband) & think of all the people I love from that day -as well as to those who were not able to make the journey but sent their waves of love our way🤍
