LOVE THIS PICTURE!!
I (Jay) am not a fan of red but I’ve always liked this picture, showing Elvis arriving in Oakland on November 11,1972. He looks exhausted after his show in El Paso a few hours before! Hope you enjoy hearing Glen tickling the ivory’s!

Elvis arriving in Phoenix on September 9,1970 to kick off a short six day tour. 8 shows in 6 days. Stops in St. Louis, Detroit, Miami, Tampa and wrapping up in Mobile Alabama!

NOT SURE!!
Elvis isn’t looking too sure on this hand shake!
But he was sure about recording the song. He did so on March 12,1975. Probably among songs that he heard quite a bit in 1953, as it was written by Jazz/ R&B artist Joe Morris in that same year. Later in 1953 it was recorded by Faye Adams with the Joe Morris Orchestra backing her. Her version is very soulful and I can clearly see why Elvis would have been attracted to it. Give the original a listen and then listen to Elvis and you will see part of the formula that created his sound!

WATCHING HIS GUYS WORK!!
This has become one of my favorite photos of Elvis! I can only imagine how many times in the studio when he would fall silent and just watch his guys display their talent. In this case James Burton doing his thing!

COULD ELVIS HAVE BEEN BETTER??
Well I (Jay) have always maintained that his voice was getting better with each passing year. His voice had matured incredibly. In 69 and 70 it was raw but by 77 it had mellowed and matured. Listen to his final concert in Indianapolis from June 26,1977.
I actually got a personal blessing from Estelle Brown, who never missed a show. When we spent the day with her I asked her that exact question. “Do you think his voice was better in the end”? She said Absolutely!!
So no other opinion matters because she was there through it all! Just listen to this song “Never Again “ recorded in the Jungle Room on February 6,1976. We will never know What Could Have Been!

ELVIS WAS A TRUE GENTLEMAN!
I have always loved photos of Elvis boarding his plane but these are some of my favorites. The second one reminds me of a comment his co-pilot Ron Strauss made during our interview aboard the Lisa Marie a few years ago. Mr Strauss told us that every time he boarded the plane, he always acknowledged the flight crew. He said sometimes he would stop and have a conversation, sometimes, especially after a show he didn’t say much at all but he always acknowledged them. Mr Strauss said that went a long way with them. The fact that they felt included in the massive operation of Elvis on Tour! You can hear our full interview with Mr Strauss on our YouTube channel. Just follow the link in our bio and that will also take you to our new website!

ELVIS’S LAUGH!!! ( sound on)
Over the years Michael and I have had the pleasure of spending time with and interviewing many people in Elvis’s circle!
One question I always ask is”what do you miss the most about your friend”? The answer is “his laugh” followed immediately by his generosity and compassion. The day we spent with Estelle Brown she talked at length about his laugh and how it wound up making everyone laugh and sometimes you didn’t even know what you were laughing about! I hope this post captures a little of that for you! Please see our interview with Estelle from a few years ago in our YouTube channel at EPBACKONTOUR and hear it in her words! Have a great day everyone!
