You may want something that’s bad for you, just to feel. You may run away from the comfort that you need because it makes you afraid. But you’ll never be happy when you try to have both.

A new piece that i dreamed up at work. Pretty happy with how it came out. Left it unfinished on purpose. This isn’t a scene that’s literally happening; just a metaphor for the relationships and conflicts between August, Rainsford, and Tuesday.

(And for obvious reasons, i added fabric)

"Some part of him felt right like this. Far away from the austere and modest image that he had grown so accustomed to.

Nothing ever happened after midnight, and for a small, fleeting moment, he saw himself. And though it was a strange feeling, it was not a scary one. He was beautiful.

Tomorrow he would return to his same old self, but tonight, he would toast to himself and smile."

“Rainsford brought it to his nose. “This is a yellow freesia. It’s one of my favourites.” He stashed it in his hair, just above his ear.

“Do you have a favourite flower, August?” He asked, seemingly unaware of the way August was looking at him.

“I like harvest-bells. The blue ones.” August replied, taking a quick glance and Rainford’s blue justaucorps.

“You like blue? My favourite colour is yellow.”

“You seem to wear a lot of blue for yellow being your favourite colour,” August commented.

“Ah, well…one’s favourite colour is not always the one that looks best on him, no?” Rainsford said with a smile.

“I suppose so,” August said absentmindedly, moving his eyes from the flower to the coat. He couldn’t figure out where it would be least obvious that he was staring.

He leaned over suddenly, and picked up another flower. “What’s the name of this one?” He asked, holding it out to Rainsford.

“That is a snowdrop. Very fitting.”

“Fitting?”

“For you. It matches your personality.”

————-

He rolled it in-between his fingers and wondered about what Rainsford had said. He stared at the small drooping petals, and then stuck it behind his ear. Not quite noticeable underneath his dark mess of hair, but there nonetheless.
