To the stranger seated behind my kids at the Noah Kahan concert. Thank you. Thank you for capturing them in this moment in time. This moment of pure joy. I will treasure it forever. ❤️

This is 21 and 17. This is the night before we move her in for her 4th year at Cal. They are both about to be seniors. We are all four at the concert, but we upgraded their seats at the last minute so they could be closer to the artist they both love. They know every word to every song. This is exactly where they should be. Together, while they still can be, for this shared experience of Noah Kahn.

When we got home last night, after the move in, after the goodbyes, after the drive home. He said, Mom, it was the best night of my life.

Being a Mother to me means also being a daughter. And a sister. A friend. A cheerleader. My kid’s constant, unconditional supporter. No matter what. If they’ve only taken one thing away in these almost 21 years, my hope is that they know this. That I will always be there for them. I will always pick them up. Always be their biggest fan. Without judgment, with an open heart.

Being a Mother means stalking my daughter’s Instagram for tiny glimpses of her life abroad, missing her like crazy, but knowing she is living her best life exactly where she should be.

It means cheering loud at every game, no matter the outcome. Watching my son grow into young man I’ve always known he would be. It means caring for all his boys at my house like my own.

It means loving my own Mom, as well as her surrogate Mom and being there for the end of her life. What a privilege.

Being a Mother means so many things to me. There are so many layers. Not always easy, but will always and forever be the most important role I will ever play.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mamas. My heart, as always, is with those missing their own Mothers today, and those wishing to be Moms, as I recognize today is not an easy one for some. 💗
