This past weekend we had a visit from the talented Mike Chacko of salon Freya, we spent the day working with the razor, laughed (Mike you’re, not only a hair wiz but incredibly funny) and talked hair! From the whole Gray Whale Team, thanks Mike:)

Hi everyone -

This is Gray here, with an update I’d like to share.

It is with a lot of gratitude, excitement and sadness that I announce my stepping away from the regular role I play as co-owner and full-time barber at The Gray Whale. After some time and reflection I’ve come to recognize that now is the moment to follow the currents in my life that are pulling me in a new direction. With the incredible support of my beautiful family and friends I’ve decided to follow my intuition, step out of my comfort zone and begin a Master’s program this September.

My cutting schedule will reduce significantly, however I’ll still be working out of the same chair each week. Please note that my books will be closed for the first two weeks of September as I adjust to my new program.

Looking ahead, the shop will continue to evolve and grow under the steady guidance and direction of my beautiful friend and business partner, Zach Ledgerwood. Zach continues to stand out as your favourite barber’s favourite barber - legitimately one of the very best out there - and brings a team mindset, dedication, vision, experience and passion that will further the organic growth and evolution of the shop into new and exciting places. I believe that the future of the shop has never looked brighter.

While difficult to summarize, the last five-and-a-half years have left me humbled, grateful and full-hearted. To have shared space with such authentic and beautiful individuals, both clients and team members alike, has changed my life for the better.

As I begin shifting to a new direction, I'd like to pause and give the deepest thanks to each and every person who has ever supported us in any way, be it through employment, word-of-mouth, sending friends / family members, waving ‘hi’ to us through the window and of course, being a direct client of ours. None of this would have been possible without you.

Wishing everyone the best in health and happiness, and am looking forward to staying connected. ❤️
