The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is confirmed to be at @VelocityInvitational

Named after carbon’s place on the periodic table, the Sesto Elemento (Sixth Element) weighs just 999 kg (2,202 lbs) thanks to an all-carbon fiber chassis, driveshaft, suspension components and body. Powered by a screaming 5.2L naturally aspirated V10 and an automated manual AWD system from the Lamborghini Gallardo producing 562hp, it launches from 0-62 in around 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 218 designed with no concern for comfort, luxury, or road legality.

Launched at the 2010 Paris Auto Show for a planned 2012 model year production, this car had nothing that the other manufacturers were showing off. No infotainment. No carpets. No glass engine cover. No separate seats even (just pads on carbon tub). Just raw mechanical violence wrapped in aerospace-grade carbon fiber. Only 20 were ever planned to be built, however, due to the car’s extreme track-only nature and high price tag of $2.92 million (the most expensive Lamborghini ever by that time), industry consensus and chassis records indicate only 10 to 11 actual cars were ever produced.

The Sesto Elemento was the first car to use forged carbon fibre (in the tub and suspension arms), a new type of carbon composite developed by Lamborghini and Callaway Golf Company.

The United States of America received no Sesto Elementos, though a demonstration chassis resides at the Boeing Everett Factory occasionally on display, as Boeing aided Lamborghini in their carbon fibre development. So having one at Velocity Invitational that now resides in Northern California as of late is a true treat.

This all makes it one of the rarest and most extreme machines ever to leave Sant’Agata and a car many would include in their “top 10” (some it would be #1).
