@cameronbensimon has sourced original prints from Isolated Heroes, the 2000 exhibition and book by Raf Simons and David Sims. The series, shot by Sims, captured fresh-faced street-cast models in Simons’ Spring/Summer 2000 collection, each subject labeled with a futuristic-sounding code rather than a name. Sims, known for his raw, documentary-style approach to fashion photography, stripped the images down to stark portraits against neutral backdrops, emphasizing the tension between youth and uniformity. The photographs were first exhibited at the Emily Tsingou Gallery in London in late 2000, displayed in a uniform row on plywood backings. At the time, Isolated Heroes faced criticism for its use of extremely young models, with some questioning the ethics of aestheticizing their awkwardness and fragility. But over two decades later, the images have solidified their place in fashion history, defining an era of minimalism and subculture influence. In 2017, Simons revisited the project, releasing a series of Isolated Heroes t-shirts printed with Sims’ portraits. The low-contrast nature of the photographs made them unsuitable for screen printing, with the low-density duotone prints struggling to adhere properly to fabric. This led to significant issues with the images wearing away after washing, and the t-shirts were eventually recalled. Many were destroyed through wear, making surviving examples rare collectors’ items. The original book, long out of print, routinely commands prices near $1,000 on the resale market.

Karl Lagereld was known for having a lot of stuff, he showed it all in the documentary Lagerfeld Confidential and talked about buying full collections from Hedi Slimane’s Dior Homme collections to be put in storage once the season was over. He lived by the fashion world he contributed to creating. Of course, that makes an auction of his assets a treasure trove for fashion fans, and perhaps some archive steals if the bids don’t go up too much. Iconic pieces like his ipods which he used concurrently to keep all his music available, fans that he hid his face and cooled himself down from sweating before he famously lost weight, and gardenias that the Chanel atelier would make for him feature in the @sothebys auction alongside sketches, gifts, and items for his cat, Choupette. With the prices as they are currently perhaps there’s something that a normal person could buy there.

@kerrytaylorauctions are auctioning a collection of Lee Alexander McQueen’s sketchbooks. This collection of Alexander McQueen’s sketches and Givenchy studio materials from the 1990s to 2001 offers a detailed look into his design process during a pivotal period in his career. Among the highlights are 54 original sketches, some dating back to his time at Central Saint Martins, including menswear and womenswear designs. These range from experimental silhouettes, like spiked bodices, to elaborate bridal concepts featuring pearl embellishments. Xeroxed sketches from the 1990s further reflect McQueen’s exploratory approach to fashion. The Givenchy Spring-Summer 2001 studio book is particularly significant. It documents McQueen’s last haute couture collection for the house, revealing 47 designs—many more than the 34 looks ultimately presented. Each page combines sketches, fabric swatches, and photographic inspirations, illustrating how McQueen drew from global influences such as African tribal dress, 18th-century European tailoring, and traditional Chinese textiles. The book also includes notes on experimental materials like snakeskin and cellophane. Polaroids of toiles and fittings complement these sketches, capturing prototypes of iconic looks, including tailored suits, corseted gowns, and draped jumpsuits. Personal photographs and studio images round out the collection, offering insight into McQueen’s working environment and his inspirations, such as a Galliano show he attended as a student. Together, these materials not only showcase McQueen’s technical skill but also document his ability to merge historical and cultural references into groundbreaking designs. They represent an intimate record of his creative process during a formative era in contemporary fashion. Lead @cameronbensimon
