Wales’s National Poet, Hanan Issa, has been dropped from the ceremony after Senedd officials rejected a poem she had written for the occasion.

Her poem, "To Grow", included references to Gaza and transgender healthcare.

Issa claims officials rejected it because the ceremony was intended to be “apolitical”.

She subsequently submitted a revised version using more abstract language, but this was also rejected.

The Prince of Wales stepped up to the crease on the Mall today, joining an array of cricketing icons from both the UK and India for a unique match that marked the official start of the countdown to the Earthshot Prize Awards in Mumbai.

Organised by Backyard Cricket, the informal game transformed one of London's most recognisable thoroughfares into an impromptu pitch, bringing together sporting greats from across the cricketing world.

The occasion served as a celebration of the longstanding bond between Britain and India, united by their mutual love of the sport, as the Earthshot Prize prepares for what Kensington Palace has billed as its largest awards ceremony to date.

A Labour government minister has refused to rule out rejoining the European Union.

It comes after Andy Burnham claimed Russia "clearly" meddled in the 2016 Brexit referendum in an indication he may push to rejoin the EU.

Asked if Labour would put reversing Brexit into their next manifesto, Defence Minister Luke Pollard said: "I don't think you can have a conversation about how we are meaningfully going to grow our economy, how we're going to reinforce our place in the world without having a conversation about our relationship with the European Union."

The Prince of Wales has said a “holistic” approach to tackle extreme flooding is needed as he met villagers living with the threat of the upcoming storm season.

William sympathised with residents in the rural Welsh settlement of Skenfrith who might be “anxious” about extreme weather events he said were no longer “one in 50-year” occurrences but seemed to be happening every year.
