Finally getting around to posting our most amazing & last “family weekend” visiting Grant at the Coast Guard Academy!!! 🧡💙🐻 from looking back at his first
family weekend, I am amazed and so grateful for the Lord’s faithfulness in what his life looks like now! He is in a leadership role, like TOP dog kinda stuff, has found the love of his life, and has made such an impact on all of his fellow classmates and staff members at the academy. I always tell him & will continue to that I am proud of who he is, not what he does. However, what he does is pretty dang awesome!!! 👏🏼 this weekend consisted of lotttsss of intentional family time, celebrating the soon to be Mr. & Mrs., eating lots of yummy food, and creating memories we’ll truly cherish forever. May the Lord continue to bless you GDG!

So you just heard about doulas for the first time…Let’s chat about what a doula is & how we can impact your birth experience! 🫂

🌼 What is a doula?
A birth doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical, & educational support through pregnancy, labor, birth & the early postpartum period. Doulas do not provide medical care. Instead, we work alongside your healthcare team to help you feel informed, prepared, & supported each step of the way.

🌼 Why have a doula?
So someone can bridge the gap between quality medical care & continuous support.

Your OB, midwife, nurses, & the rest of your birth team are responsible for providing safe, excellent medical care. Their work is invaluable.

My role is different. I provide the continuous support they don’t have the time or capacity to provide. You may not see your OB until it’s time to push. You may only see nurses for timed check-ins or when you push your call light. I will help you prepare for birth, encourage proactive curiosity, answer questions, educate, support your partner, provide comfort measures during labor, & remain a steady, familiar presence from start to finish of your journey. Whether you are between appointments or between contractions, my attention is devoted to supporting you continuously.

🌼 Why does continuous support matter?
Women with continuous labor support were significantly more likely to describe their birth experience positively, regardless of outcome. Research consistently shows that continuous labor support is associated with:

• 25% lower likelihood of cesarean birth
• Higher rates of spontaneous vaginal birth
• Shorter labors
• Less use of pain medication (if desired)
• Overall more positive birth experiences

The evidence is clear: continuous support benefits both mothers & babies. 🤍

I became a certified birth doula after being completely transformed through my two vastly different birth experiences. I’m here to help fill the gaps & in-between moments throughout your pregnancy, birth, & postpartum journey.

Coast Guard Family Weekend 🧡💙 it was so sweet having all of us back together 🥹 a quick 24 hour trip with little sleep (for M lol, I slept the entire flight and drive from Boston to CT 🤪) but with lots of giggles & sweet memories made 🫶🏼
