A week ago I closed a remarkable show with a remarkable group of humans.

COME FROM AWAY is a show I’d been chasing for several years. Though I was fairly young when it happened, I remember 9/11 and how the world changed. And I’ve always loved how Irene Sankoff and David Hein managed to distill the BEST of humanity into such a heartfelt, tuneful, poignant piece about this day that lives in infamy. These characters were already in my heart. And I finally got to play Beulah. My sweet Beulah. My first of many Beulahs, hopefully.

Now these PEOPLE. I went into the process already knowing I admired the work of some involved; now I can truly say I admire the work of everyone involved. On stage and off these were real, salt-of-the-earth people. And I can’t imagine our show with any other combination of lovably eccentric, heart-first pals.

From Joey and Delores’ jokes in the back of the plane; to Beulah and Annette fan fiction; to the way we held each other on the hard days; to Le Bar; to the other bars; to Dress Like Hunter Day; to the first responders in the front row; to the community who embraced this story… I loved every bit of it.

Thank you to Carl and everyone at Sharon Playhouse who made this experience possible.

Thank you, all.

I recognize that seemingly half the world is performing COME FROM AWAY right now. But, I tell ya, I’d match this group of people with any of ‘em in terms of talent and generosity, both on and off stage. The show is proving to be a cathartic and meaningful way to honor the best in humanity, and the small acts of heroism that give us hope in even the darkest times. Thank you, @sharonplayhouse.
