I 🤍 Sundays at ABAC

after 7 years, hundreds of practices, countless competitions, a few bulging discs, ripped out earrings, and dutch braids later, i am officially a retired competitive dancer (for real this time).

having taken a year off of competing because of burn-out, i realized i wasn’t dancing because i wanted all the medals and plaques, i was dancing simply because i love to dance. my final season wasn’t about chasing the top overalls, it was me chasing my love for dance and that’s exactly what i did. i set aside the pressure i put on myself of beating the next girl in line and refocused that energy on being better than i was the day before and simply having fun!

thank you to all of the teachers who poured into me these past 7 years: to ms tab for encouraging me to go out of my comfort zone and try out for dance, to mrs christy for taking a chance on a girl who had never danced a day in her life, the dance moms who helped with all of my quick changes, my teammates for always cheering me on from the wings, to all my family and friends who have come out to support me over the years, and most importantly my parents who made it all happen and supported all of my decisions.

with gratitude,
wt 🩷
