🪐 THE NEXUS ✨

I believe there is more to festivals than just a long party. We come out of them changed and inspired at many levels.
We all come from different lands and cultures, have different stories, and speak different languages. Yet, we all gather for a common love for music, to express ourselves truthfully, to connect and eventually find a sense of belonging.

My intention in making this totem was to represent this togetherness.

🌀 Crafted in @funkisign and painted with @odjin.art for @wakinglife.pt , where stages surround a lake and generate a circular flow of energy, the Nexus is made of five rings revolving around one another.

♾️ On the core ring are painted the characters from La Horde du Contrevent by Alain Damasio, each one represented by a symbol, reflecting the archetypes that compose humanity.
Every archetype is a different way of seeing and being in the world, yet only together can they face adversity and find meaning in existence.

Each archetype finds its correspondance in the astrological and alchemical signs of the second ring, and in the runes of the third ring, letters of an ancient alphabet imbued with power and intention.
On the fourth ring are trigrams from the I Ching, which combine into hexagrams representing states and concepts of the human experience.

🔗 The final ring carries a single word: Nexus, latin for link or connection, then translated semantically into various languages, evolving chronologically since the birth of writing.

Odjin also painted his own abstract art on the reverse sides of the rings.
This artefact is what it is today thanks to his skills to paint it meticulously, and his dedication to bring more depth, energy, and meaning to it than I could have on my own.
Thank you brother for bringing this intention to another level ! 🫂

Huge thanks as well to Benji at @funkisign, for teaching me how to build this in the first place and welcoming me into his workshop.

And thanks to Alex and Devlin for lighting advice and craftsmanship 💡

Big love for those who played with it and danced around it this summer 💃🏻❤️‍🔥

See you next year 🧙🏻‍♀️
