We hosted “A Beautiful Table” to celebrate the flavors of Ethiopia for our August CommuniversiTEA’s culinary class. Chef Buna brought her delicious Berbere Spice, Ghee, and an assortment of treats to enjoy with a Khoseret Tea and Ethiopian Chicory Coffee. The energy was festive, and learning authentically from one who spoke about her traditions and culture was a tremendous opportunity for us all. And as people as far as Nigeria, India, and France continued to enter our space, smelling aromas that reminded them of home, we literally kept the party going for a few hours!! I hope that if you come to Carlsbad Village, you will join us for CommuniversiTEA events, which are held every month. We’ll set a place at our table for you. Buna and Antennah, thank you for an amazing day!! And to my Fave… the reason I am a mom: I love and appreciate you always for your hard work behind the scenes. I could not have navigated the day without you. Thank You Sun!!

Rest has been an important practice in my daily life as an adult. As a daughter of two Mexican immigrants, there was never rest in our home. If we rested we were "lazy". As the eldest daughter, I was also responsible for a lot of things like making sure my siblings were safe. When I took my first yoga class (18years old) I remember coming back home and feeling so guilty that my mom was stuck at home putting everyone needs before herself.

Now as an adult, I am RESTING and I no longer feel guilty about it. It took a lot of layers to peel but now resting is one of my favorite things ever. It is when my imagination sparks new ideas & creativity blooms. It's way to replenish my body, spirit (chi) and emotions.

I even invite my parents to rest with me, it's as simple as enjoying a cup of coffee together or like guiding my mother on a restorative yoga flow.

I am currently wearing many hats, from being the director of community & culture at work, sitting in the board of directors of our garden non-profit, spinning vinyl in my community & just showing up for myself and others. I honor my rest. I can't pour into anyone if I can't pour into myself.

Thank you to the practioners in the healing arts that are part of my journey. @heal.thygoddess @whorl.acupuncture @mantra_karuna @hathamartahatha @campbellandcarr 💫🤍
