"I had the amazing opportunity to serve with RiseMalawi Ministries in East Africa this summer.

"Malawi is one of the top 5 poorest countries in the world with over half the population under the age of 18. RiseMalawi was started by two Malawians to meet the physical and spiritual needs of children living in poverty. This holistic ministry responds to poverty in Jesus’ name by providing education, meals, job training, spiritual discipleship, and Bible studies.

"For a month I lived and worked alongside Malawian believers and ministered to vulnerable children in afterschool programs and summer camps. Moments where I was able to love on a kid—like holding a kid's hand, dancing with them, teaching them a song, or serving them lunch—even without many words, was precious to me!

"This experience along with my time as a Campolo Fellow at Eastern has prepared me for a life of ministry and Christlike servant leadership."

LONDON CALLING 🇬🇧

This summer, 12 Eastern students spent 4 weeks living, learning, and serving in South London through the Sociology course London Calling: Reimagining Faith in Urban Ministries.

From touring Westminster and St. Paul’s Cathedral to serving in community kitchens, urban farms, and youth ministries, these students explored the Church’s role in fostering faith, reason, and justice within the communities around them.

Inspired by the legacy of Rev. Dr. Tony Campolo, London Calling is challenging students to love their neighbor through action and service.

A big thank you to the Campolo Center, Oasis Charitable Trust, and Goldsmiths College at the University of London for your collaboration in creating this incredible experience for Eastern students!

The only attempt to establish a Christian nation in this land called itself the Confederate States of America. Anyone who wants to celebrate 250 years of our Union should know that it depends on rejecting religious nationalism.

What a wild thing to take a once in a lifetime trip, for the second time! I am so grateful for the 8 days The Campolo Center (and friends) traveled through Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia to experience important place and spaces to the civil rights movement in this country and to tell the truth about the formation of our country. There are some really significant stories worth sharing, but what is at the forefront of my mind is the people that I took this journey with. 29 people walked significant journeys together and I’m grateful I got to walk it with each one of them. Here are some glimpses of the lovely humans I got to journey with this week.

We're in a crisis. How can you make a difference?

There is an affordable housing crisis causing homelessness in our community. It can feel overwhelming, but we know there are solutions when we work together.

Join other university students, faculty, and staff in learning how we can work with other community members to make an impact. Learn how you can take action right now with other university students across our region while we share a meal together.

True compassion is expressed through acts of service.

By way of helping others, giving time or resources, and being present for those in need. Compassion isn’t just a feeling, but something we actively demonstrate through service.

Highlights from an unforgettable experience! ✈️🇬🇧

The Campolo Center recently took a pilgrimage to the UK, visiting London, Birmingham, and Manchester with students, faculty, and staff. The Campolo Fellows had the opportunity to join Tony Campolo’s ministry partners, witnessing their impactful work in bringing love, justice, education, mental health care, food, and community to under-resourced neighborhoods in the UK. They also explored study abroad opportunities with partner universities!
