It’s been a true joy and honor to contribute to the mission of late Louise Hopkins-Underwood, I see and feel her vision to the core.

There are so many things I’m grateful about that have developed over my time and experience here. Getting my creative spark back, new friendships, learning more about our arts community here in Lubbock, and so so much more. 🤎

Thank you to @l.maestri & the LHUCA staff for seeing something in me and extending this opportunity to me earlier this year. I’ve loved every single second of my time at LHUCA thus far and cannot wait for many more core memories and experiences yet to come!

Dyed & Gone to Heaven || These chairs are the brain child of tie-dye queen, @candyapplemayhem. Julie wanted to recover her vintage arm chairs with her own tie-dyed canvas fabric and make her ✨manic pixie dreams✨come true. I measured, cut, and labeled each different part—accounting generously for shrinkage of the canvas—and then she individually tie dyed each cut of fabric. When assembling, I matched the pattern when possible and let it run free when not. Her manic pixie dreams have come true!

Every Heart A Doorway by Seanan McGuire

I’ve been reading a ton of portal magic books lately, but not by design. They just seem to be very in right now. This one was quite unique. Children are invited to worlds outside their own, seemingly based on their temperaments and needs. The other worldly places they visit become much more a home to them than the ordinary place of their origin and most will do anything to get back once they have left. They rarely leave of their own volition.

McGuire has created nuanced characters with such variety in this work. Their myriad personalities mirror the seemingly endless possibilities of the worlds to which they travel. While all misunderstood in their own way, they find refuge together in Ms West’s sanctuary boarding school. And while their surrogate mother cannot give them the lives they have lost, she gives them a place where that loss is accepted and where their hearts can find some peace.

There are 5 books in this series with a sixth on the way. It seems the next few volumes are all over the timeline, but I had wanted things to move a bit more linearly to see what happens to these characters. But I am curious enough to keep reading at some point.

This is my Dark Academia read for @popsugarreading and @readingrivalry as well as the January selection for my Facebook group The Fantastic Society. This was free from Tor publishing this month. I’m pairing it with this Educated Guess Cab Sav that my brother @jonwhitfill got me for Christmas. It came in this fun tie-dyed wine gift bag from @candyapplemayhem
