Wonderful collaboration this week with French cellist @marccoppey! We have been friends and neighbors for many years but this was our first time performing together. Our program included sonatas by Beethoven, Shostakovich and Franck and it was a privilege to delve into these meaty works with a partner of great refinement and intelligence 🙌🎻

Hvala, Ljubljana! 🇸🇮

What a wonderful evening at Cankarjev dom and a lovely visit to Slovenia as our European Tour reaches its final three cities.

During tonight’s concert, we were honored to meet dignitaries and friends of Cankarjev dom at a special intermission reception, including Suzana Češarek, Consul General of the Republic of Slovenia in Cleveland.

We’re grateful for our continued relationship with the Slovenian Consulate in Cleveland and for their support in strengthening the connection between our Cleveland community and Slovenia.

Thank you to everyone who joined us tonight!

𝗙𝗟𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗢 𝗕𝗘𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗗 𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗥𝗘 — Reflections from the roundtable

What happens when flamenco becomes a language through which artists speak in their own voices? How far can its forms evolve before questions of legitimacy arise and who gets to decide what flamenco is?

At our Flamenco Beyond Genre roundtable, we talked about the relationship between tradition and experimentation, artistic freedom and cultural expectations, and the risks and possibilities of pushing beyond established conventions. We also reflected on how flamenco is perceived and positioned in different cultural contexts, including Slovenia.

Rather than seeking a single definition, we opened a space for different experiences, perspectives and questions about the present and future of flamenco.

Our sincere thanks to all the speakers for their openness, generosity and thought-provoking contributions:

𝗣𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗼 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶́𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗼, 𝗚𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗼 𝗠𝗰𝗚𝗶𝗹𝗹, 𝗥𝗮𝘆𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗺, 𝗔𝗹𝗯𝗮 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗼, 𝗝𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗳𝗲 𝗣𝗲́𝗿𝗲𝘇, 𝗝𝗼𝘀̌𝘁 𝗟𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁, 𝗦𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗮 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗼, 𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗡𝗼𝗲𝗺𝗶́ 𝗟𝘂𝘇, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗼 𝗱𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗮, 𝗔𝗻𝗷𝗮 𝗠𝗲𝗷𝗮𝗰̌, 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗷𝗮 𝗞𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗰̌ and 𝗨𝗿𝘀̌𝗸𝗮 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮.

And thank you to everyone who joined us in person and online and contributed to the conversation.

Once a protégé of the renowned Yehudi Menuhin and Mstislav Rostropovich, and today a leading cellist with a burgeoning conducting career, Marc Coppey is the recipient of the French honorary title “Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres”, a sought-after music educator, and artistic director of both the Les Musicales de Colmar and the state-of-the-art music education centre Saline Royale Academy in Arc-et-Senans, France. ✨

Playing a 1711 Matteo Goffriller cello, he will engage in a musical dialogue with Andrew von Oeyen – an incisive pianist of artistic elegance and brilliant technique, and an exclusive Warner Classics artist – who crowned his enviable international concert career with a debut at the prestigious Carnegie Hall in 2025. 🏆

Presented in collaboration with Cellofest Ljubljana, the concert highlights some of the pinnacles of the cello repertoire – Beethoven’s epic heroism encapsulated in sonata form, one of Shostakovich’s most elegant and romantic scores, and Franck’s journey of the soul woven into cyclical unity. 🎻
