Easterns 2026 ✅

Had a great weekend, some decent lifts, some good laughs, and some fun times with friends.

Went 7/9, failed my last bench and missed my last deadlift on technical faults.

Squat 245kg/540.1lb (5kg atpr)
Bench 155kg/341.7lb (missed 165/363.7)
Deadlift 252.5kg/556.7lb (missed 260/573.2)

Total 652.5kg/1438.5lb

Back to training, lock-in don't stop (after a short break to eat mega carbs during meet weekend/relax the day after, of course)

CanPL Easterns 2026

Sort of a last minute decision to do this meet, having registered on the deadline(unlike me).

I was eager to get back to the platform after my wife and I welcomed our child in January. This saw me changing for a bit, switching to primarily training in my garage, and a bit more of a chaotic prep than previous. Knowing all of this going in I registered in the 120kg class to take away the stress of making weight.

Couldn't be happier with the outcome on the day! Weighing in at 108.9kg my best lift were:

292.5kg Squat
160kg Bench
317.5kg Deadlift
770kg total
1st place 120kg open
2nd place men's open overall

Squat was on fire all prep and I knew a pr was there, bench progressed nicely throughout and by the end of prep I was certain there was a pr there too. Deadlifts were pretty hit or miss this prep, I was pretty in my head at many points about not being able to tie my previous best of 315kg, so to smoke 317.5/700 for the first time after failing it in the gym many times felt like the perfect end to the day.

Thanks to my coach @benmercertraining for always keeping my eye on the ball and to the boys @bnaster69 and @wesleyharpo for keeping me alive with banter. Always more fun to share this with them. Also couldn't have done it without @plg.nico expert handling on the day.
Now I just have to learn to cut from around this bodyweight without affecting performance for 770-800@105

Very happy with this refresher meet after having not competed in well over 1 year. I did a fairly substantial water loading/cut into this meet. Before the loading phase my morning weight was about 205lbs, which I then water loaded to ~210lbs and then cut over 2-3days down to 198lbs. I felt this defintely affected my squat performance, missing my 3rd attempt at 606lbs. This was purely an energy/hydration deficit which acutely hurt my strength, however as time progressed and I was able to rehydrate further into bench and deadlifts, I feel my performance was back to baseline. It was a neat little experiment but its hard to tell if it was worth it for #glmaxxing as I feel i defintely had more in me for squats without the water cut.

Thanks to @newbrunswickpowerlifting for hosting a fantastic Easterns and as always, thanks to all the volunteers and support personnel for making these events possible. Looking forward to the Atlantic cup in 12 weeks to see how much further I can progress these lifts.

Additionally thank you to @ttwallaceee for the amazing support. Competing wouldnt be possible without the daily and weekly support you provide to allow me to pursue this passion. And thanks all the extended family who came out to cheer me on.

A huge thanks to my unofficial team for the positivity and support ❤️ and to my husband / handler who has offically mastered the ol' power slaps 💪

We stayed conservative with the lifts this round, now lets get crazy at Atlantic Cup in November 😈

Easterns 2026 Meet Recap!! It’s a long one!

I don’t think i’ve ever been as anxious for a meet since I started competing. First meet not on home turf, my nerves were through the roof. However with the support of my amazing circle, the heavy things were lifted, PRs were accomplished, and I walked away feeling so proud and grateful for being able to do it all. Oh and I got Drug tested for the first time hahaha

Squats- I was the MOST nervous for. I’ve worked hard on my squats over the last year and it’s shown. The big numbers still scare me a little but I was able to overcome a big mental block this training period. I can taste 4 plates so now time to build!
1: 160kg/352.7lb ⚪️⚪️⚪️
2: 167.5kg/369.2lbs ⚪️⚪️⚪️ (5kg PR)
3: 172.5kg/380.3lbs ⚪️⚪️⚪️ (7.5kg PR)

Bench- I was humbled by 2.5kg AGAIN on my bench and honestly was surprised. My second attempt felt so great i thought I had another 5kg at least in me but choose to keep it safe. I am going to do a redemption in the gym because I KNOW I can do it!

1: 77.5kg/170.85lbs ⚪️⚪️⚪️
2: 80kg/176.36lbs ⚪️⚪️⚪️ (matched meet PR)
3: 82.5kg/181.88lbs 🔴🔴🔴

Deads- My favourite lift always. I was a tad nervous for these because big numbers but I was also excited to be trying these weights!

1: 165kg/363.76lbs ⚪️⚪️⚪️ (Felt crazy I was opening at this)
2: 172.5kg/380.29lbs ⚪️⚪️⚪️
3: 180kg/396.83lbs ⚪️⚪️🔴 (12.5kg meet PR) I will pull 405 before the end of this year!!

Six sessions. A whole lot of highs, a few tough lows, and a weekend that reminded me why I love this sport so much. ❤️

Coaching/handling at CANPL Easterns was so much fun and an emotional roller coaster 🎢The big lifts, the PRs, the unexpected wins, the missed attempts, the nerves, the tears, the celebrations — you experience all of it right alongside your athletes. And while the scoreboard tells one story, there is so much more happening behind the scenes.

What folks outside of PEI may not realize is just how small PEIPLA really is. We are a small provincial organization, but we continue to find ways to show up, support our athletes, and create opportunities for our lifters to compete at the highest levels. Not just be there but to feel a part do something more!

As President of PEIPLA, I am incredibly proud that we were able to provide coaching and support to every member of the PEI team at Easterns. That matters to me. No matter where they are in their lifting journey, every athlete deserves to feel that their province is behind them.

And that, to me, is one of the most rewarding parts of doing this — not just helping someone lift more weight, but helping shape the kind of athlete and teammate they become. We get to influence the culture: how we handle success, how we respond to disappointment, how we treat officials and other competitors, how we support one another, and how we carry ourselves when things don’t go according to plan. Athletes become great competitors by learning how to compete - which is entirely another skill set than training!

Those lessons will always matter as much as the number on the bar.

The powerlifting community is competitive, but it is also incredibly supportive, and I never take that for granted.

Six sessions later, I am mentally and physically exhausted, proud, and grateful!

The weekend was hectic and long and I am human — six coaching sessions in a such an intense environment came with a few moments I wish I could have handled differently. I genuinely feel bad and will learn from these moments.

@canpleasterns 2026 is done and dusted! Can’t wait for the next one 👊

This girl deserves her own post after her showing at her first @canpleasterns Eastern Canadian Powerlifting Championships this weekend! She set her sights on some big goals- and she not only reached them- but she surpassed them all!
She had an absolutely incredible meet going 9/9 AND coming out with every National record for Youth 3 47kg females in Canada!
Maizy broke the National record in her 2nd squat, and then again in her 3rd with 62.6kg/137.7lb, she took the bench record as well, which was incredibly impressive, with a 3rd attempt of 35.5kg/78.2lbs. Less than 10 pounds off her bodyweight! Simply Amazing.
She finished deadlifts off breaking the National in her 2nd attempt, and then crushing it in her 3rd with an 87kg/191.8lb pull (video includes)
This also gives her the National record total of 185kg! For just turning 12 a couple weeks ago- she is pretty impressive!

To say I’m proud of her would be a huge understatement- watching her dedication and determination to become stronger and push herself outside her comfort zone is just so incredible- I wish I had the opportunity at her age to do this. It’s such a wonderful community and sport to be a part of.

Cant wait to see where it takes her!
