This might be our most special Jumpstart Champion so far, because it is none other than our own Founder and Executive Director, Tim Adams.

In recognition of his efforts over nearly two decades with Free Play for Kids, Tim will be honoured with the first-ever Community Champion Award, alongside @cansportshall's Class of 2026.

The number of Edmonton kids impacted by Free Play for Kids as a direct result of Tim’s dedication is immeasurable. From a problem he identified doing a story as a journalist for the CBC in one school, Free Play for Kids is now in 26 schools providing support for 500+ Edmonton kids after the bell rings — daily.

Thank you @ctjumpstart for this honour, and for powering our soccer pathway Tim has been building for nearly 20 years!

From all of the coaches, volunteers, teachers, principles, janitors, donors, supporters, and staff that have been a part of this incredible accomplishment … CONGRATULATIONS TIM! 🎉

In this video, Dr. Wilton Littlechild, a residential school survivor, discusses how the sport of hockey played a pivotal role in his life and continues to benefit Indigenous communities across Canada today……

Littlechild (born 1944) is a prominent Cree leader, lawyer, and long-time advocate for Indigenous rights. Raised in the Ermineskin Cree Nation in Maskwacis (formerly Hobbema), Alberta, he was brought up in his traditional culture by his grandparents before enduring the residential school system.

He holds distinction in Political Leadership: he served as a Member of Parliament and as the Grand Chief of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations. Littlechild is widely recognized for his work at both national and international levels, particularly as an advocate for the implementation of treaties between Indigenous peoples and the Crown, and for his contributions to global Indigenous rights.

In addition to his legal degree, he has received honorary doctorates and is a celebrated athlete and builder in the world of sports, recognized for his efforts to advance Indigenous sport across Canada.

A little piece of Canadian sports history, right here at Wickfest! 🇨🇦🏒

The Canadian Sports Hall of Fame has officially unveiled its travelling exhibit celebrating six incredible Canadian female athletes, including Hayley Wickenheiser!

This interactive, walk-through experience brings their stories to life — celebrating the women who have broken barriers, inspired generations and helped shape Canadian sport.

We’re honoured to be the first stop on its WickFest journey before it heads to Calgary and Surrey. ♥️

✨ TODAY WAS THE DAY! 🙌💥

HER Time is officially on the road! 🚐🇨🇦

Our first travelling digital exhibit in many years launched today at @wickfest in Milton, and we couldn’t be more excited!

HER Time brings young girls face-to-face with some of the most extraordinary women in Canadian sport: Martha Billes, Hayley Wickenheiser, Christine Sinclair, Stephanie Dixon, Waneek Horn-Miller and Kia Nurse. 🇨🇦🏆

Every story belongs to a woman who changed what was possible. And every story has the power to inspire the next generation to dream bigger, aim higher and go for it. 💪✨

This exhibit exists because of a shared vision. A HUGE thank you to @canadiantirejumpstart for saying YES! ❤️

Jumpstart removes barriers to sport. Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame shares the stories that make young people want to stay.

Access gets them in. Stories help them stay. ❤️

And this is just the beginning! HER Time will travel to communities across Canada, bringing these incredible stories to girls wherever they live, play and dream.

Because when women’s sport is celebrated and seen, girls see what’s possible. And then? They go after it. 🚀

👏 And a massive YAY for the rock-star team at Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame who brought this vision to life. YOU ROCKED THIS! 🥳

And so it begins! Wickfest in Milton with a nice opening party at the @thehockeyhalloffame ! Great to see our Secretary of State, Sport, Adam VanKoeverden, Angela James, Jennifer Botterill and of course the amazing host, Hayley Wickenheiser! Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame is thrilled to open the HER Time exhibit tomorrow at Wickfest, Milton! And from there it will travel the country carrying with it the stories of some of the greatest female athletes and sport leaders this nation has ever produced- (Hayley, Christine Sinclair, Stephanie Dixon, Waneek Horn-Miller, Kia Nurse and Martha Billes). Thank you Canadian Tire Jumpstart for making HER Time a reality - it will let young girls see that they belong in sport and know what’s possible when you have a dream.

54 years ago, Canada lived one of the most iconic moments in its sports history. 🇨🇦🏒

The 1972 Summit Series was supposed to prove Canada’s hockey dominance.

Instead, the Soviet Union pushed Canada to the brink across eight games, setting up a winner-take-all finish in Moscow and one goal that became part of Canadian sports history.

Paul Henderson. Game 8. 34 seconds left.

More than five decades later, the Summit Series remains one of those moments that helped change hockey forever.

It’s National Coaches Week! 🤸‍♀️❤️

One of the things that makes our coaching team so special is the incredible range of experience, backgrounds, and perspectives they bring to our gym.

✨ A former Olympian — our MAG Head Coach ✨ Competitive gymnasts and cheerleaders who have turned their passion for sport into coaching — including our WAG Head Coach, a former member of Team Canada’s Senior National Cheerleading Team ✨ Young coaches at the beginning of their journey who have completed 70+ hours of volunteer coaching ✨ Queen’s University students bringing experiences from gymnastics clubs and programs across Ontario.

Different paths, different experiences, different strengths — all coming together with the same goal: helping our gymnasts learn, grow, build confidence, and love gymnastics.

To every coach who gives their time, energy, knowledge and heart to our athletes: thank you. We’re so lucky to have you.

Introducing “What’s Working”, a new series from Better Sports Parents spotlighting the people and programs actually solving problems in youth sports, community by community.

First up: Tim Adams, founder of Free Play for Kids in Edmonton, and inaugural recipient of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Community Champion Award.

His numbers cut right to it: $250/month for after-school childcare, another $250/month for evening sport. That’s $2,000 a year. For a lot of families, that’s the difference between making rent and not. Kicking a ball after school sounds like a small thing. Tim’s saying it’s not.

Free Play for Kids removed that barrier entirely by running free, school-based sport and childcare together for thousands of kids across Edmonton.

This series exists to find programs like his and ask: how did this work, and could it work where you live?

Ele ficou em último lugar. Mas provavelmente é mais lembrado do que quem ganhou o ouro. 🥇

🇨🇦 English below ⬇️

🇨🇦 ENGLISH

He finished last, yet may be better remembered than the gold medallist. 🥇

At Calgary 1988, Eddie Edwards had no sponsor and funded his ski jumping training as a plasterer. His courage won over the public.

Filming where it happened made it even more special. @winsportcanada welcomed me and keeps Calgary’s Olympic legacy alive through sport.

@cansportshall also welcomed me. Canada’s only national museum of sport recognizes role models, strengthens communities and inspires future generations.

Sharing these stories helps Brazil discover and love snow sports. 🇧🇷❄️ @brasilnaneve

Thank you both for welcoming me and helping bring this legacy to Brazil. 🇨🇦🇧🇷

This Eddie pin tells an Olympic story beyond medals.

Which athlete do you remember more for determination than medals? 👇
