Great @cant_drive_yet show last night at @supplydemandbrewery ! Looking at these clips, you’d almost think I’m the president of the bassist’s fan club or something? (Last long clip is my fave of their songs. It makes me want to teleport myself to 1988 and whip a lighter out and hold of over my head and sway.)

🎸 TONIGHT 🥁

I'll be sitting down with Erin from @londonsprettycool to talk about Planet Of Sound Rock School, working with the next generation of musicians, and what it means to be part of London's music community.

One of the most rewarding things about starting Planet Of Sound has been getting to know so many incredible people who care about keeping music alive and giving younger musicians opportunities to learn, create, and be heard. I'm incredibly grateful to be part of that community and to have the chance to contribute to it.

We'll also have some live music from our buds @cant_drive_yet!

Come hang out, listen in, and say hello. We'd love to see you there.

🎤 What happens when young musicians have nowhere to play?

Music lessons can teach you an instrument, but becoming part of a music scene takes more than practice. Young musicians need places to perform, people to learn from, and opportunities to share bills with artists who have been doing it for years.

So, what role do venues, promoters, festivals and established musicians play in making that happen? And how can all-ages shows benefit the entire local music community?

For October’s Industry Night, we’re sitting down with Eric Longtin, creator of Planet of Sound Rock School, to talk about music mentorship, developing young musicians, and building a more accessible and sustainable music scene.

🎸 We’ll also be featuring a live performance from Can’t Drive Yet! As a band connected to Planet of Sound, they’ve been working with Eric as part of their musical journey. They’ll bring the conversation to life and show us what it looks like when developing musicians get the chance to play, grow and share their music with an audience.

Come be part of the conversation about how we can make room for the next generation of London musicians. 🤘

🎸 How do we build the next generation of musicians?

Learning an instrument is just the beginning. Finding a band, playing your first show, meeting other musicians and finding your place in the local music scene are all part of the journey, too.

For our October Industry Night, we’re joined by Eric Longtin of Planet of Sound Rock School to talk about music mentorship, youth in music, and how we can create more opportunities for emerging musicians in London.

We’ll get into the business of teaching music, the importance of all-ages shows, why venues and promoters should consider booking younger bands, and how the entire music community can help the next generation find their footing.

Whether you’re a musician, music educator, venue owner, promoter, or simply someone who cares about London’s music scene, this conversation is for you. 🤘

Today marks one year of Planet Of Sound Rock School!

When I started Planet Of Sound, I wanted to create the kind of music-learning environment I wish I’d had growing up; a place where people could play the music they love, learn without being judged, and feel like they were part of a community.

I’m really proud of how much has happened over the past year.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with some amazing students and bands. I’ve watched students learn their first chords, take on songs they never thought they could play, write their own music, join bands, perform live, and record their first demos. Being trusted to help people work towards those goals has meant a lot to me.

Planet Of Sound has also become involved in London’s music community in ways I didn’t expect during the first year. We hosted open-mic stages @punkrockfleamarketlondon, helped out @londongrc, put on a sold-out student-band showcase @supplydemandbrewery, worked with @ldnmusicoffice for the City of Music Concert Series, co-presented Planet of Stomp with @stompboxlondon, we were a proud sponsor of Stompfest, and helped give young and emerging bands more opportunities to play.

Thank you to every student who has trusted me to teach and mentor them, and to the parents and families supporting what they’re doing. Thank you to the bands that have worked, recorded, and performed with me.

Thank you as well to everyone who came to a show, stopped by our booth, attended an open mic, shared a post, recommended the school, bought a shirt, took photos, made artwork, offered advice, or helped with an event. Every bit of that support has helped Planet Of Sound become what it is today.

There is still a lot I want to do. I want to keep welcoming new students, helping bands get started, recording demos, organizing all-ages shows, and working with people who care about the local music community.

Most of all, I want Planet Of Sound to continue being a place where people feel encouraged to make music, meet others, and figure out what they want their own musical path to look like.

Thank you for supporting Planet Of Sound during its first year. I’m really looking forward to seeing what happens next. ❤️🎉
