A year ago, our son Giorgio Poma played Bruch’s Kol Nidre @lincolncenter for our beloved synagogue @centralsynagogue.

Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement, our holiest day, when we fast, pray, and ask forgiveness from God and from one another. It is a day to look honestly at who we have been and to begin again. And as this holiest of nights approaches, it is my first without my dad, who passed seven months ago. I keep returning to that music.

Giorgio, you moved our hearts and souls then, and the memory of it carries me now.

Kol Nidre opens the day with a plea for release from our unkept vows, a reminder that we are imperfect and that we are still held. Listening to you, we felt a yearning for peace, a reflection of our strength as a people, the soul of the Jewish people.

Even with so much threat to Jewish life, we will continue. From generation to generation. L’dor va’dor.

Today we also say Yizkor, remembering those we have lost. May my dad’s memory, your grandpa’s memory, be a blessing. Gmar chatima tova.

Remembering the legendary Dolly Parton today, who brought all of humanity together through her music, joy, and philanthropy. We sang this version of “Light of a Clear Blue Morning” at High Holy Days last year.

As Rabbi Ari Lorge shares, tzedakah helps build Jewish identity and community.

This Chanukah, we invite you to consider making a gift to Central. Every gift has a profound impact and helps our community shine.

We wish light, joy, and connection to you and those you love.
