On view now! An Endless Meeting: 變 SLOW BURN Oct 2 - Nov 15, 2026 In 變 SLOW BURN, eight artists and collectives explore memory, belonging, grief, queer kinship, dreaming, and transformation. Bringing together installation, performance, video, sound, and painting in Vox’s Gallery One and Black Box, this exhibition Breathing from the mystical creature of fènghuáng – bigender birds that guard the South and Fire – this exhibition centers the slow burning of grief, rage, resistance, and world building. Etymologically, 變 biàn denotes weaving through silk and words with folding hands. Shifting between meanings of movement, chaos, uprising, and change, 變 gathers collective practice into a relational cosmology shaped by tending, where rebirth unfolds not through spectacular sacrifice, but through the act of coming together again and again. Co-curated laura 嘟嘟 and huiyin zhou 徽音, curators in residence Vox Populi, as part of An Endless Meeting. PARTICIPATING ARTISTS Gallery One Zainab Zulfiqar @zaizulfi, Cynthia Zhou @ethernautics, Rah Gerg @rah_paints, Voyo Woo @voyowoo, @mengcheng.tn MengCheng 梦城团 Collective Black Box Sarah Trad @thearmoredgirl, Kat Nzingha @katnzinghasdead, CAO Collective 离离草 @caocollective Galleries are open 4-6pm on Thursdays and 12-6pm Fridays-Sundays Photo Credit: Constance Mensh @cocobanal Made possible by generous funding from the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage @pewcenterarts Presented as part of @collectivefutures.info

“Tying the Knot” is a dance activation of the sculptural installation Betrothed, embodying the entanglement inherent to attachment. Two dancers in orbit exchange proximity, gravity, tension, and slack, conveying the uneasy and profound process of becoming enmeshed with another: to change and be changed by them. Presented as part of 變 SLOW BURN. Co-curated laura 嘟嘟 and huiyin zhou 徽音, curators in residence at Vox Populi, as part of An Endless Meeting. “Tying the Knot” is directed, costumed, and fabricated by Rah Gerg and performed by Phenon Grace Murphy and Annie Peterson. These three are multidisciplinary artist members of hall pass @hallpasshallpasshallpass project space, located just down the hall from Vox Populi. @rah_paints , @phenongrace, @peteann Made possible by generous funding from the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage @pewcenterarts

This First Friday, Oct 2nd from 6-10pm::🎺 While you’re in the building to visit the opening of Held Together at @hallpasshallpasshallpass, make sure to visit the opening of 變SLOW BURN at Vox Populi @voxpopuligallery , co-curated by CAO Collective 离离草 (Laura 嘟嘟 and huiyin zhou 徽音) 🐦‍🔥 Such an honor to be selected for this show. In 變 SLOW BURN, I am among eight artists and collectives explore memory, belonging, grief, queer kinship, dreaming, and transformation. This exhibition brings together installation, performance, video, sound, and painting in Vox’s Gallery One and Black Box spaces. • Here are some sneak peeks of my work “Betrothed”. This show marks its first public viewing, but it has been floating in my studio since the start of this year. Components of this work were featured in my collab with @itsdahop where I created an installation and collage during DJ sets. The papermache elements began all the way back in August ‘25 during my residency at @peterbulloughfoundation “Betrothed” Papermache, plaster, wire, printed scans of jewelry and grasses, acrylic, colored pencil, wooden panel, stretched canvas, sewn fabric and paper collage, mulberry fiber, indigo dyed rope, twine, crochet with dyed yarn• • “Betrothed” is an ever-shifting system of relationships. As a modular body, it behaves as an organism in a series of encounters. As components are rearranged, they are constantly subjected to new encounters and ecologies. This process of forming images and meaning only to be ripped apart exudes queer malleability. It plays with tension and slack, activation and rest, fear and desire, proximity, and negotiation of relationship boundaries. This restless entity undergoes seasonal shifts and incorporates found and gifted materials, grounded by adaptation, arrangement, and collective impact. 🪢🎺🪢 Stay tuned for more information about the activation of this work, “tying the knot” which will be performed by the incredible @peteann and @phenongrace of hall pass fame ;) 🌀🌀! Mark your calendars for November’s first Friday (Nov 6th at 7pm)!

This Saturday!!! 回 (huí) | Close to Home Saturday, September 19, 5pm - 7pm In Chinese, 回 (huí) can denote a return, a response, an echo. But it can also embody a map, a memory rippling back into itself. A spiral that folds, collapses, expands. Two holes, two eyes, two mouths – an open grave, a quiet wound, a grief with no end. A portal of (im)possibilities. In the dreams and hauntings of diasporas, what can we still create and hold close to home? Bringing together photography, video, writing, and social practice, this evening program features work from @huiyin.zhou 徽音 & Laura 嘟嘟 (of @caocollective ) and @connieyu121 & @bulletsweety (of @manyfortunes ). In the spirit of 中秋 Mid Autumn Festival, the four will engage in a conversation on belonging, nostalgia, intergenerational memory, and collective care. Join us for readings and a video screening, followed by Q&A, and book signing of huiyin zhou’s nostalgia is the ghost of care (@homiehousepress 2026). Light refreshments provided. Donations (of money, mooncakes, memories, and more) are encouraged. This event is organized on the joint occasions of CAO’s An Endless Meeting collaborative curatorial residency at Vox Populi, and the closing of Portals, co-curated by Connie Yu and Maya Yu Zhang. Portals (August 13–September 20 at @studio105atray ) features an intergenerational group of artists, connected by the material and metaphorical project of making a home in an unfamiliar place. Slide 1 - Image Description: An opened book cover, featuring an image of two people sitting on a swing in a forested backyard, the image blurred by motion. Handwritten in pink, the English title “nostalgia is the ghost of care” climbs down the front cover and the Chinese title “在未来怀念一片云彩” on the lower left corner of the back cover.
