1 Rep Max Testing >>When one plans to test a 1 Rep max (1RM), in order to get the most accurate and successful numbers, an individual should think about the following: why am I testing my 1RM?
•Is it because you drank too much pre-workout and you’re feeling courageous?
•Is everyone doing it and you can’t back out on the bros?!
>>On a serious note, for aspiring competitive powerlifters, most of 1RMs should be saved for the platform if competing 1-3 times a year. Why? Because for a lifter’s 1RM to increase a significant amount (if they are not beginners) it will take a few months. Putting on lean muscle mass is a slow process and while one’s strength can go up without increasing lean muscle mass, it is in the lifter’s best interest to plan most of their training year with the goal of increasing muscle size. As we increase muscle size we increase the potential for that muscle to become stronger with proper programming. >>Another important aspect that you should think about when planning a 1RM test is:
•How has prior training made you ready to be in the best “shape” for this challenging task?•Have you been working with higher intensities?(85% of your 1RMor more).
•Have you made sure that you have dropped as much fatigue as possible so that your newfound strength isn’t masked by it?
-
~Look at your training before 1 Rep Maxing and make sure that you are as ready as you can be!
