Last night, I had the incredible honor of officially earning my Certified Community Action Professional alongside five of my EMAA colleagues, and more than 200 Community Action professionals from across the nation who also earned their CCAP. Standing in that room, surrounded by so many people who have dedicated their careers to serving others, was something I will never forget. The awards were certainly worth celebrating, but the people and the mission behind them were the true highlight of the evening. Community Action is about so much more than programs, funding, applications, or numbers. It is about people. It is about meeting individuals and families where they are, recognizing their strengths, helping remove barriers, advocating for change, and believing that every person deserves the opportunity to build a better future, because they do. Earning a CCAP isn't simply about adding letters after your name. It is a commitment to continuing to learn, grow, lead, and understand the many layers of poverty and the systems that impact the communities we serve. It challenges us to look beyond treating individual circumstances and to recognize where advocacy and changes in current systems are needed to create lasting impact. Because sometimes a person needs a hand up. Sometimes a community needs a voice. And sometimes the system itself needs to change. Community Action professionals have the unique responsibility to do all three. I am incredibly proud of the work I do with East Missouri Action Agency, and even more proud to stand alongside my five EMAA colleagues who earned their CCAP with me. Together, with the thousands of Community Action professionals across this country, we are part of something so much bigger than ourselves. To my fellow Community Action professionals: Keep Learning. Keep Advocating. Keep Showing Up. Keep Fighting for the communities you serve. Because our work matters. Our voices matter. Our advocacy matters. Our education matters. And most importantly, our communities matter. I am incredibly grateful, incredibly proud, and incredibly honored to officially say, "I am a CCAP," but I'm even more blessed to say, "I've found my people." #NCAP ❤️

Opportunities start with the right resources! 📄 🧡

Sometimes, the next step begins with knowing what’s available. UCC works to connect individuals and families with information, programs, and resources that can open doors to new opportunities.

From education and employment support to essential community services, every resource shared is another chance to help someone move forward with confidence.

At UCC, we’re committed to making opportunities more accessible and helping our community take the next step toward self-sufficiency.

UCC thanks everyone who joined us this week for our Youth Education and Employment Services Department’s “Boots and Hard Hats” Recruitment event! Our community got to learn and hear directly from our staff and program alumni about UCC’s workforce development opportunities and how we can equip future program participants with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in today’s industry.

As UCC Deputy Director Jacqueline Henry shared with attendees, “We want to make sure you’re serious about your future. Our programs offer so many career paths, and our goal is to prepare you for full-time employment and long-term success.”

Please listen to these young and inspiring women who are advocating for the rights of their parents and other farmworkers and agricultural workers. Both are now highly successful college students who got their start in life, quite literally as babies, at Migrant Head Start Centers. Now they are 2026 interns with the @_nafhsa led by the extraordinary @cleordzjr. Both are thriving in their summer positions with the @united_farmworkers and @UnidosUS. Hear them (and please give me a follow)!! https://bit.ly/3RjcwhW

Newark City Councilmembers Dupré Kelly (@doitalldu), Larry Crump (@imwithlarrycrump), and Anibal Ramos Jr. (@anibalramosjr) took an exclusive tour of The Market at UCC today, connecting with our staff and market guests to see firsthand how UCC is working to stymie food insecurity across Newark and Essex County. 🛒

Michael Sol Warren of @wnyc joined us for the tour as well to speak with UCC leadership, staff, and our market guests about why this initiative is so important for the community.

Together with @wellpoint, our city leaders, and community partners, we remain committed to making fresh, healthy food accessible to all of our neighbors.

UCC also extends a special thank you to our Board Secretary Blanca Lopez for joining us today, who, along with our dedicated UCC Board members, helps our agency bring vital initiatives like this to fruition.
