🗓️ Mark your calendars for Saturday 24 in Gort and Saturday 31 in Ballydehob!

As part of @augustcraftmonth24, some of our members are organising two events to celebrate Irish-grown fibres and develop connections among the local textile community:

🐑 This Saturday 24 August from 10:00am - 4:00pm, @irishfibrecrafters has prepared a day of traditional craft demonstrations such as hand carding, hand spinning and weaving at the Gort Town Hall in Gort, Co. Galway. Also featured will be skill sharing, talks by local crafters, open discussions with the public, and a showcase of the locally available materials that can be used in textile craft.

🧵 On Saturday 31 August from 12:00pm - 6:00pm, @kilcoe_studios, @liadainaikenknitwear, @kathykirwan_theartofnature, @jeanmlong and @capeclearsheep have prepared a packed-full day of fibre in Kilcoe Studios, Ballydehob, West Cork. The schedule for this event will run as follows:

🔸 12pm Arrival & Greeting – A quick introduction and outline for the day. Tea, Coffee and snacks provided for all diets

🔸 12.30 – 2pm Wool Discussion – Talks from local wool growers, spinners, researchers and knitters with a focus on Irish Grown wool, breeds of sheep, processing and knitting in Ireland.

🔸 2pm – 3pm Lunch – BYOB or local cafes.

🔸 3 – 3.30pm West Cork Flax Talk and Discussion with Kathy Kirwan

🔸 3.30 – 4pm Update on @mallonlinen project to reintroduce flax processing by Anna Crudge

🔸 4 – 4.30pm Animal Hide processing and tanning - learnings from a local group – Sonia Caldwell

🔸 4.30 – 6pm Show & Tell – An open floor for members to talk about their work, show any past or current projects. An opportunity to connect and learn with one another.

🔸 Evening time Opportunity for anyone available to stay around the village to go for food/drinks and continue our networking and chats.

In my element yesterday at the Rare Breeds Day organised by @irishnativerarebreedssociety at @bunrattycastle.ie for Heritage Week. Thanks to @michellehickeyart and to @thegalwaywoolco_op for inviting me to come and take part in the exhibition of artists and crafters using Galway wool. I showcased the beautiful Geansaí Chléire both the original sample knit in 1924 and the Galway wool sample. I got to wear my newly designed jumper in Galway worsted and I spent the day in the company of wonderful people and animals. A fabulous day out in County Clare.
