A working hand is a beautiful thing.

One slow stitching course done. One to go! (2nd November, @caperoxford)

Can't believe 5 weeks have already passed and my first slow Stitching course after having my little one is done. Mad. And it was a beautiful one. I had the best group to ease me back into teaching and I was truly heartened at how much had actually stuck in my head!
And thank you to @summertownarts, the most glorious venue and a group of people working so hard to bring out the artistic lives of so many. I'm going to miss the beautiful sounds emanating as I left every Monday evening (choir!).

And even better, the course starts again! Monday 2nd of November at Caper Bookshop (another very favourite venue!)

I had a lovely Oxford launch event at @caperoxford on Thursday, to mark the release of Lord's and Maharajas. I also took the chance to reflect on the year that has also seen the publication of Writers in Whites. Big love to Caper Bookshop and to everyone who came along!

Junior Book Club at Caper introduces 8-12 year olds to new authors and brilliant books which might not be on their radar.

£10 gets you a copy of the book and entry to the session. Ideally read the book beforehand.

It’s Bookshop Day! Guppy Books wouldn’t exist without this bookshop - Books for Children on the Wandsworth Bridge Road in London (now a Starbucks😠) - ran by the brilliant and inspirational Diana Wolfe Murray who is hugely missed. A place where the best books were read, the best friends made and a haven (heaven?) for children. And Guppy now wouldn’t exist if it were not for the tireless work of children’s booksellers all over the country, hand selling, recommending, promoting and supporting. Thank you ALL!

Here are just a few of the ones we visited over the last year, and we are so thrilled that our very own Pomona is the Indie Bookshops Book of the Month for October. ♥️

What better way to mark #BookshopDay than by celebrating some of Oxford’s brilliant independent bookshops?

As part of our celebrations of the #NationalYearOfReading2026, we met three of the local booksellers helping to keep the city reading!

With carefully curated shelves, expert recommendations, and spaces that bring readers together, independent bookshops play a hugely important role in Oxford’s literary life.

SAT 10th October

Today is the annual celebration of all things bookshop related, what better day to go and show some love and appreciation to a bookshop near you, there are so many to choose from, here are just a few of our friends and neighbours new and old that we’ve made through our bookselling journey so far, it’s a great privilege to be part of such a brilliant bunch of folks, go buy a book from one of them this weekend and say hi from me!

We've learnt about Fiction, Non-Fiction and Debut Fiction, but what about books for our younger readers?

That's where Aisha Bushby, Caroline Carpenter and Xander Cansell come in. This fabulous trio of Children's Fiction judges will be looking for the best children's stories published in the last year.

For Caroline, she's looking for "stories that are excellently written, exciting and have real child-appeal. I'm looking for books that move me and stand out from the crowd".

We can't wait to see what Caroline and her fellow judges pick!

On the road lately: Liverpool, Oxford, Utrecht, London, Dublin. What a wonderful way to get to see the world, I feel very lucky.
If my first book focused on accountability, this one is about empathy, and it’s been amazing to see people sharing advice, experiences & stories of kindnesses, & making new connections as a result of the book.
Thank you again to all of the organisers, conversation partners & attendees - it’s such hard work putting on these events & takes time out of your busy days to come. I definitely don’t take any of it for granted! ❤️🙏📚

It’s almost Tiny Ideas time! We had a look at our Saturday events yesterday, now let’s have a peek at our events on Sunday 27th September! We’ve got a magical sensory adventure for 0-3 year olds in Bags @thestorymuseum, a fab family comedy for all ages in Bin Rat @thenorthwall, vibrant circus, parkour and storytelling for ages 4-8 in The Hideout @pegasusoxford, creative sun picture (weather dependent!) or wax resist book mark crafts for ages 3+ @caperoxford, and fantastic family movies with themed crafts with Kiki’s Flying Delivery Service @uppcinema! #tinyideas2026 #artsforall #theatreforyoungaudiences #familyarts
