The smell of fresh asphalt permeated through the Capital Center as students and university faculty celebrated the Capital Center’s 25th anniversary alongside a new indoor track last Wednesday. The scent of the brand new Betty A. Byelene indoor track was so strong that attendees could barely smell the hors d’oeuvres catered for the ribbon cutting ceremony. 25 years of Comet Pride. 💜 Last night, we celebrated 25 years of the Capital Center and marked the occasion with the official unveiling of the new Betty A. Byelene Indoor Track. From alumni reconnecting and coming together to celebrating the next chapter of Capital University Athletics, the evening was a reminder of just how many memories have been made within these walls over the past 25 years. The newly reinstated Capital University Pep Band made its first performance, bringing even more energy to an already unforgettable night. A special thank you to Steve Wachtman ’85, TLS ’92, a member of the Board of Trustees, and the Wachtman family for their generous support of the Pep Band; to Cheryl (Pottorf) Welsh ’73, wife of Roger Welsh, who served as Capital’s Athletic Director during the construction of the Capital Center; and to their families for joining us and helping make this milestone celebration so meaningful. Here’s to another 25 years of Pride in the Purple.
