HOLD UP - fitna throwback! On a Tuesday. 🤩 @glassflowerfilms had more fab pics and footage from my private cast & crew & special guests #TheIdiomTrilogy screening on 9/18. This batch includes pics with guests missing from the first post so I *had* to share. 🤷🏽‍♀️☺️ Warm embrace from #gristfilm DP & #samuelshortfilm DP *and* Editor @katyframe @breeves7777 & Katherine Brewster (@standupspeakoutdocuseries) Enter @theladyxt | follow NY Shakespeare Exchange (@shakesexchange) to learn about and submit for her company and @cappytann & his son Bro: TYSM for your enthusiastic support - and professionalism & reliability! Issa no-brainer to hit you up whenever I have a project - and/or know someone who does - for which you are a fit. If you’re reading this and it applies to you, contact @cappytann! @dvandy123 - one of my first friends at @barnardcollege and my good Judy till this day - queued up. Diane proposing a subject for one of my future projects. 😃 Fellow actor and filmmaker @am_agbodji (follow @thebreakingupfilm) with all three The Idiom Trilogy postcards. 😻 group SHOT (#iykyk) SHOT SHOT SHOT Thanks again @schnenvironment for the delicious cake | Bethany is a background actor in “Samuel” and a pal in a group of friends I refer to as The Usual Suspects 🫶🏾 Not sure what I’m talking about here lol | @nanya.akuki (Keisha in “Samuel”) and Steven in the foreground @missgadabout (Jill in “Samuel”) and a “usual suspect” 🫶🏾 @closetconfections - a dear friend since my Barnard days - is a background actor in “Samuel” and a “usual suspect” 🫶🏾 As I mentioned in the Q & A, “Samuel” is meta in multiple ways and on multiple levels, including the fact that Hannah’s (the film’s protagonist) friends are all my IRL friends. Likewise, her broader community includes friends and colleagues from my broader network.

I couldn’t have asked for a better kickoff to my burfday weekend! Last night, nearly 40 cast & crew from all three films in #theidiomtrilogy; family (including my aunt @sosochilln who came in from DC); friends; and other special guests joined me at @nomaanyc for the first group screening of all three films. It was a full circle - and meta #iykyk - experience on multiple levels and in multiple ways, including the fact that 7 years ago I premiered my first short #threebirdsfilm on the Friday before my birthday. TREMENDOUS THANKS to all who came out last night! (I’ll tag as many of you as IG allows.) Special shout out and thanks to NoMAA for hosting us and, again, for being one of #samuelshortfilm’s generous funders along with @hispanic_federation & @nyphospital via Small Grants for Individual Artists. Shout out and thanks to @moikgantsi who moderated a thoughtful and engaging Q & A. Shout out and thanks to @iamalnisa for checking guests in last night. I’m so glad we are in one another’s network. Can’t wait to see your 3-2-1! 😉 MASSIVE shout out and thanks to @glassflowerfilms who recorded and photographed last night’s event. Petol has been an INVALUABLE support and collaborator over the course of my filmmaking journey. She mentored me and co-produced, assisted directed, and played another critical role (#iykyk) for my short “THREE birds.” She was also the photographer for “Samuel.” TY TY TY Petol for your big sisterhood - that started WAYYY before my filmmaking journey! “I see pretty lights in the distance…” ✨

It turns out this has been a three-year process as I’m reminded (in 2/6/2024 caption below) that I started “Samuel” pre-production in earnest in summer 2023. What a journey and labor of love. (Heavy on the labor AND the love. ❤️‍🔥😃) We did it. It is finished. 🥹 Caption from 2/6/24 post 👉🏾 Prior to and in the run up to starting pre-production in earnest last summer, I spoke privately and publicly about the scale of #samuelshortfilm being larger than my first two short films. My babies #1 #threebirdsfilm & #2 gristfilm are its beloved predecessors. “Samuel” will complete “The Idiom Trilogy.” Along with this BTS reel, here’s a glimpse of “Samuel” pre-production and production by the numbers 👉🏾 1 successful crowdfunding campaign that funded pre-production & production 2 non-consecutive ~ net 11-hour shoot days 4 shooting locations (S/O & THX to @silvanaharlem & @mayslesdocumentarycenter 🙌🏾) 4+ BIG hats for me including Writer | Producer | Director | Lead Actor 5 Principal Actors (including yourstruly) 6+ costume / makeup / hair changes (for me alone) 7 women HODs (Heads of Department) (including yourstruly) of the … 10 member women a/o BIPOC production crew 23 Background Actors (Cast and crew (intentionally) lookin’ like a Benetton ad. (iykyk)) 100 + crowdfunding supporters who made this essential part of the filmmaking process possible! ♾️ - MY GRATITUDE & EXCITEMENT (‼️) about post-production, the third and final leg of the journey towards a final cut. Thank you, thank you, thank you. believe✨ 📸 & 🤳🏾: @glassflowerfilms @cappytann & yourstruly
