When we went to Sacramento this week to speak before the Senate Governance and Finance Committee, we had a clear message: state historic tax credits are an investment in our future. After hearing from California Preservation Foundation, AIA California, Toni G. Atkins, and Fiona Ma, the committee agreed, voting 5 to 0 in support of moving our tax credit bill, SB 451, forward. Next, the bill will be heard by the Appropriations Committee on its long journey to Governor Newsom's desk.

CPF is committed to taking this bill all the way, because we believe that our cultural and architectural heritage is worth fighting for. Join us on this critical journey today by making a donation to the CPF Advocacy Fund.

All donations to the Advocacy Fund are matched - dollar for dollar - up to $50,000. Double your impact by making your contribution today!

This week CPF’s Executive Director, Cindy Heitzman, and V.P. of Development, Chris Wasney, were in #WashingtonDC advocating for preservation priorities, including funding the Historic Preservation Fund and supporting the Historic Tax Credit. They are pictured here meeting with @repmikethompson, along with John Lesak from @pageturnbull, and Shaw Sprague from @savingplaces. During the visit, we presented Representative Thompson with his 2017 Legislator of the Year Award, which he was unable to receive in person due to the devastating fires in his district. Throughout the week our delegation met with Congressional Representatives and staffers from more than 10 districts throughout California, as part of @preservationaction’s Advocacy Week.

@CApreservation works to move preservation forward year round, from small towns to our nation’s capital. I spy with my little eye . . . two of my fave Wine Country buds, @danarebmann + @tafuller, outside @thefrancishouse the other day. Always nice catching up with you! Still thinking about how great the #thefrancishouse #restoration turned out. Let’s have drinks sometime by the fire pit that’s off to your right in pic 2. Innkeeper Richard Dwyer made it all by himself out of leftover stone from the #renovation. I’m delighted to be covering #thefrancishouse (good perch for #napavalley #winetouring) for @fodorstravel •

Can easily imagine whiling away hours @thefrancishouse—poolside, in the back parlor, or in one of the five simple but elegant guest rooms. Stone exterior is locally quarried tufa. After three decades as a private home, the 1886 structure became Calistoga Hospital for a few decades. It was abandoned for half a century until Dina and Richard Dwyer rescued and restored it (and just won a #californiapreservationfoundation award for doing so). Their #luxuryinn opens in early September. Thanks, D&R, for the preview today + those wines from The Vineyardist. I’m covering #thefrancishouse for @fodorstravel •

Between 1929-44 the ‘Kress’ name was imprinted on more than fifty Art Deco buildings in the U.S., including this one in 1931 from Bakersfield, California...S. H. I still can't believe we've lost one of our heroes in the community, Dawn Bohulano Mabalon @drmabalon The pictures posted are probably the biggest achievement of our @bep BEBOT music video when we were recognized with the
@capreservation Presidents Award in 2007. It accomplished my ultimate goal which was to shine a spotlight on their Little Manila Foundation @littlemanilastockton Some people in our community unfortunately remember that video for the open letter and controversy. Not many know how that letter demoralized me, derailed my career, and put me into a creative depression. It's the kind of dark moment a lot of activists feel when they start to become apathetic, start to give up, and question "why do I even do this for my community?" But Dawn was one of the few who came out and reached out to me. Her words and encouragement is what I really needed to hear when so many were out there twisting my intentions. She was always real to me, her uncensored email still one of the best emails I've ever received. It's funny, unfiltered, and contains the kind of support any artist needs to hear. Her email is responsible for the revival of my career, the creative explosion of post-2007 projects and music videos I directed for @bambudepistola @hopiespitshard @rockyrivera @nativeelements @legacimusic Vox Merger @ginahiraizumi etc. She was there the night we announced our @lumpiamovie feature. So I cried just rereading her emails from 2007 this morning because I realize how much I needed to even read her words NOW more than ever. All of us seek and feel validated by "The Official Position of Dawn Mabalon" Her words not mine 😂 But that's how much influence and how much respect and admiration we have for Dawn. Her love and passion burnt so bright with every project she was working on. I am saddened she'll never get to see what we've cooked up for LUMPIA 2. I would've loved to hear her laugh with her unfiltered review, critique, and commentary. Because of you, I won't give up for my community. I'm still going and still trying to create stories for our community. I'll always carry your legacy and friendship in my work. Thank you, Dawn 🙌🏽#dawnmabalonisintheheart
