POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
And of course, in the caption the false claim is explicitly stated just in case this line of questioning didn’t already bring you to the false conclusion: ā€œThey may be safe amounts in each product, but when used as a cumulative whole, they can be a burden on our bodies.ā€ And once again…CITATIONS NEEDED.

A mere detection does not equal a harmful dose. Notice how these types of posts are always specifically calling out ā€œsyntheticā€ additives as if they’re inherently less safe than natural? This isn’t the case, but you’d certainly never see this line of questioning or these false claims being presented for natural ingredients, like essential oils, even though some of those have endocrine disrupting properties as well. In fact, many of these people actually sell essential oils and promote DIY products in which essential oils are being used in potentially very harmful ways and doses. Not to mention that many of them are selling supplements too, which are much less regulated than food and cosmetics.

Which brings me to another point. Food additives and skincare ingredients have to meet rigorous safety standards. If anyone is telling you that these things aren’t regulated, they just simply don’t understand it or are purposefully being deceitful. So, if the claim is that these regulated ingredients are in a food or skincare product at a harmful dose, the burden of proof is on the person making those claims to provide evidence. You don’t just get to claim something is unsafe and pretend it’s a fact unless someone proves you wrong. You also can’t prove anything to be 100% safe, so again, the burden of proof is on the one claiming an ingredient is unsafe at the relevant doses.

What is asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

There are so many great evidence based accounts when it comes to skincare. There’s no reason to be following people that clearly don’t have any experience or expertise in these areas.

Skinfluencer… what does that mean?? 🧐

Technically, you could call anyone who posts about skincare on social media a Skinfluencer. But I define it as someone who has a page devoted to skincare, but does not have a professional stake in skincare, a license to practice esthetics, or a medical license.

A lot of professionals I know are quick to shun these unlicensed skin enthusiasts. Yes, we worked very hard for our credentials, nobody can take that away. But the reality is, EVERYBODY has access to medial journals, books, and any number of websites about skincare science.

Therefore…ANYONE can become an expert in skincare. From what I’ve observed, there are some on this platform whose knowledge far exceeds a lot of ā€œprofessionalsā€ I know. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

A skinfluencer has an advantage here because they are, first and foremost, avid CONSUMERS. Who better to consult on whether a moisturizer is ā€œgoodā€ than someone who’s tried literally hundreds?

These 4 accounts I’ve highlighted in this post are a few of my favorites, for different reasons. One thing they all have in common, is that they impress the heck out of me with their content. I have learned a ton (even though I’ve studied extensively for over a decade), and been given a lot of food for thought by their great posts, reels, and stories.

Check them out, hopefully you’ll get some value from their content. For all you ā€œprosā€ out there, watch your backs! We need to stay one step ahead on our education, and they are up for the challenge!

I’m starting a series, speaking to all different people in the skincare industry, asking them for tips and tricks they have learnt.

This is the first one of the series, I asked;

ā€˜What is the one piece of invaluable advice which is now a staple in your day to day skincare life?’

Everyday is a learning day and I think social media is a great tool to help educate and learn from everyone in the industry. I think it is also great to have access to some amazing professionals that you normally wouldn’t !

What is your one piece of invaluable advice you’ve learnt and now is bible ?
