yesterday someone asked me when i learned how to sing… i told them i sang before i learned to talk

today was the first day i can remember where i haven’t sang.

today i sat with myself,
i walked through the forest,
i meditated (if sitting with my eyes closed thinking about not thinking counts)

today i thought about how privileged i am to be able to take time out from the world

today i thought about what the world might look like if everyone had the chance to do this

btw the song is called october and there’s a glitch between my distributor that i haven’t fixed which is mixing it up with another song title… independent artist tings

before my dad died, we were told the support he needed wasn’t available locally. one of the last things he told me was that he was lonely.

i often wonder what might have been different if he’d had somewhere to go at 3am. somewhere to eat a bowl of soup, meet a stranger, have a laugh, and feel part of the world.

being in pai has made me realise how much we’re missing in australia.

here, life continues at all hours. people eating, playing music, talking, or just existing around each other.

in australia, we’ve made community something you have to organise, schedule, and usually pay for.

we’ve medicalised loneliness instead of addressing the social conditions creating it.

we spend millions building arts centres and cultural hubs, but how much do we invest in activating these spaces and bringing people together?

people are awake at all hours. they’re sitting at home scrolling, looking for connection. why have we designed communities that shut down at 6pm?

not everyone needs a therapist at 2am. sometimes you just need somewhere to go. and when someone does need professional help, community should exist alongside it, not instead of it.

we can’t keep treating loneliness as an individual problem when we’ve built a society that makes connection so difficult.
