This is your sign to solo travel to Japan (ESP YOU GIRLYS)

The idea of flying to a new country alone feels intimidating, esp as a woman… I get it, but this trip taught me even more about myself than I expected.

Being in my mid-30s, all the walking definitely hit a little harder than it did in my 20s. Hello Japanese leg cooling sheets and a lot of random pharmacy runs😂
But every step was worth it.

I also love shopping when I travel abroad (bc the US economy sucks rn), and in Japan, somehow “I’m just going to take a quick looksies” turned into an hour every single time. They have SOOO much cute stuff🥹

Traveling solo doesn’t always mean being alone. I took it upon myself to start learning Japanese seriously. And if you can speak some Japanese, it opens up more doors to how many cool people you can meet along the way, esp at bars!

A tip for those with a Coach Brooklyn 39: your shoulder is going to FEEL it. I ended up using my Baggu nylon crossbody almost the entire trip because it was so much easier for all the walking (25k+ steps daily for me)

I packed as light as I could but ended up bringing one too many outfits. For 10 days, I rotated maybe 2 or 3 outfits. Every hotel had laundry, and if I needed anything, Uniqlo and GU had affordable basics everywhere. And I mean everywhere.

I also packed more conservative outfits out of respect for the culture. The downside? I was sweating my tatas off. 😅

Thankfully, Japan is prepared for that as they are truly on another level. They have cooling shirt sprays that activate when you sweat, cooling body wipes, cooling sheets, and all kinds of heat relief products that honestly made a HUGE difference.

If you’ve been thinking about taking that solo trip, this might be the push you need. Japan felt very safe, I was able to walk home from bars at 3-4am (obvs be aware of ur surroundings too). It’s very easy to navigate (NYC subway takers will have no problem), and full of little things that made traveling there so enjoyable that I wanted to cry at the airport.

I’d go back tomorrow if I could in a heartbeat 🇯🇵
