POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

At the Martial Arts History Museum opening in Glendale two years ago I gifted Sumo fan/?practitioner and friend Americus Abesamis this original Japanese woodblock print of a Sumo wrestler. I think it’s a particularly good one though perhaps a bit worse for wear from something like 100 years ago. I also gave it a simple frame to protect it although UV light can gradually fade the colors (for which reason direct sunlight should be avoided or UV blocking glass should front it—if that’s available). The back story here is that somehow we got into a discussion about this Japanese art form a few months earlier and he noted that he had always wanted such a piece (Sumo) but they were too pricey. As it turned out I had a few lesser expensive ones I got at auction so it was a natural for me to pass one on to him. My honor and pleasure! And yesterday at Dragonfest, Americus shared that the print is hanging up in his home. Frankly I was glad to hear that—and then this photo from that day popped up on my text messages. Nice to share—and as I’ve taught my kids—better to give than receive!

I miss Sports Science. They were always running the experiments to answer the questions I grew up wondering, as a child growing up in a STEM household. #sumo #basketball #sportsscience #explore #reels

It has been brought to my attention that somebody turned us into a clock on Etsy. Based on the name tags, it looks like they used AI 🤨😡
If you buy it, please let me know if it inspired you to start running around the house and jumping over the couches, or if you hear a bunch of scrounging around and then you hear a bunch of yelling.

Last but certainly not least. It was great to meet and chat with Sumo competitor and actor Americus Abesamis. He was in Book of Boba Fett and look for him in the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu.
