Regular or goofy? 🤔

One of the first things you need to learn when you start skateboarding is your stance—which foot goes forward and leads the board.

There are two stances:
🦶 Regular: left foot forward
🦶 Goofy: right foot forward

Neither is better than the other. It’s simply about which stance feels natural to you.

Personally, I’m goofy-footed, but I’ve always gravitated toward doing tricks regular-footed. Skateboarding is all about finding what works for you.

Understanding your stance is just one of the foundational pieces we’ll cover inside my Pocket Coach community to help you build a strong foundation from the beginning.

Inside, you’ll get:
🎯 Personalized coaching
🎥 Video feedback from me
💡 Unique tips & challenges
🛹 A community of other beginners

We’ll work through the fundamentals all the way to skills like your first drop-ins and ollies.

I’m looking for 10 dedicated beginners to build their foundations with me this month.

Comment “coach” and I’ll start a conversation to see if it’s a good fit for you!

I created this community because I’m passionate about skateboarding and even more passionate about teaching people how to skateboard. 🛹

I’ve been coaching for 11 years and have helped hundreds of skateboarders build their fundamentals, overcome fear, and fall in love with skateboarding.

One thing I’ve noticed over and over again? Most people want to skip the fundamentals and rush straight into tricks.

But strong fundamentals are what everything else is built on.

That’s why I created my beginner community here on @PocketCoach to take you from where you are now and give you the tools/support to get where you want to be.

If you’re just starting skateboarding, don’t worry about learning tricks yet. Build your foundation first. 🛹

My favorite people to teach are beginners.

Why? Because when you’re starting out, building strong foundations is one of the most important things you can do.

The way you stand, push, turn, stop, balance, and control your board might seem like small details but those skills become the foundation for everything you’ll learn later.

After years of coaching hundreds of skateboarders, I’ve developed a system that helps beginners build strong habits, understand the fundamentals, and know exactly what to practice and why.

That’s why I created my @pocketcoachapp community: to share that process, break down the small details that make a great skateboarder, and make learning to skate feel less intimidating.

This month, I’m looking for 10 dedicated beginner skateboarders who want to work with me to build their foundations the right way.

Comment “coach” and I’ll start a conversation to see if the community is a good fit for you. 🛹

This scene was SO much fun to make and it feels so special to see it come to life. Ever since I saw this scene as a kid, it’s always held a special place in my heart. I told myself one day I’d turn pro be Eric Rivers and give hope to the people who need it. I know sort of a childish dream but this is one of those movie scenes you see as a kid that defines you. Plus poetic tragedy by @theused playing in the background will never fail to bring a tear to my eye.

Also this was really fun to shoot with my student Bradley (and Vincent together dynamic duo), who is just such an impressive kid. He travels all around competing in speech tournaments and absolutely love skateboarding. It’s been such a pleasure skating with him, getting to know him, and now having him be a part of this scene with me.

Shout out my crew @phanny_pack_pfilmer @josh_behind_the_camera @longjacobian for their expertise in helping me bring this to life. None of this would be possible without them.

Shout out to @noiseland_merch for the location (check out their expansive t-shirt as you can see a little bit of it in the background) and @grindmovierewind @caseylascala and everyone who worked on the original movie and now who is working hard to bring us the sequel

God this was so much fun to make. Every since I saw this scene when I was a kid I wanted to recreate it at my house since the roof is right over the pool. When they announced the Grind 2 project earlier this year I knew this was my shot to make it happen. Thanks to my crew for helping me bring this to life ✨
