WORST CASE SCENARIO
At Forward Operating Base Mirwais, Afghanistan, we trained with the US Army troops, based along side the Aussies, simulating critical incidents. The combat medics were kept busy as they had to apply combat first aid and organise the evacuation of the injured personnel as quickly as possible. Training for the worst possible situation, makes these guys ready for anything.

TIME TO CHANGE
I captured this image of an Australian Army soldier as he was about to swap out his piquet (watch). The sun was just dropping behind the hills, meaning the cold was about to set in for the evening. Rugged up with thermals and extreme cold weather gear on, we would go take our turn of protecting our mates.

Another monochromatic moment by the waters edge. A simple gesture of a guy and his skateboard and his personal freedom.

A CHILD'S PERSPECTIVE
When I deployed to Afghanistan, I would often wonder what was going through a child's mind when we would pass through on a patrol. Some children would run out with big smiles on their faces, holding out their hands, and ask us for things - like water and pencils, or look at our gear. Others would sit back and watch from a distance as we walked by.
We were there to help keep them safe, but I often wondered if they saw that or just strangers in their village.
