Car No. 551 Where are you? Today on Live! From Jasper's Kitchen / KCMO Talk Radio, we roll into the heart of the River Market neighbourhood, where a new landmark has arrived: Car No. 551. Housed inside a beautifully restored 1947 Kansas City PCC streetcar at 426 Delaware Street, the venue marries vintage transit charm with modern dining energy. Owner William Jordan has transformed the car into a welcoming eatery and event space. It offers a mix of grab-and-go deli fare alongside smoked meats and kielbasa from a 96-year-old local favorite, Peter May’s House of Kielbasa. This isn’t your typical food truck or pop-up; the trolley seats about 16 inside, plus patio space outside, and is designed to serve year-round. The story of Car No. 551 is about more than food. It’s about giving new life to a piece of Kansas City history. After stints in Toronto and San Francisco, the streetcar returned to Kansas City in 1996 and now is a permanent address in the River Market district. As the neighbourhood grows and changes, spots like this offer both nostalgia and a fresh vibe.
