The steepest road in the country? This is Krakeelrivier Pass ✊

This is the historic Duiwelkop Oxwagon Route that served as passage to the now Louvain Guest Farm where traders exchanged timber for meat in the 1800s. Today the road serves as a scenic alternative to the Montagu & Outeniqua passes, connecting the Langkloof and Garden Route.

A fun track that winds its way over a mountain pass to the highest point (viewpoint) before descending rocky sections into and through forests below.

The area was hit by heavy rains and winds in mid-2026 as a result of which the road sustained some flooding damage but fortunately nothing too serious.

2026 is wrapped up 🎁 had a tough day out at the final @farmjamharescramble of 2026 and managed to pull a 2nd 🥈 on the day and grabbing a 3rd 🥉 for the year in S2 Pro .

A great season of racing with great events and a lot has been learned for 2027 😌🙏

Final @enduroworld EWXC at blue groove was a hard one , heading at first🥇 in the pack dropped down to 2nd and had a small crash bending my gear lever 🤦‍♂️ leaving me stuck in 3rd and 4th gear . Pushed through and finished up 2nd on the day and 2nd in the championship 🥈

Happy with the results and got room to improve next year 🗓

@theroofofafrica month 🏔️

When I first did this race in 2013 I rode a Yz 250f with no electric start and @gforcejarvis beat me by 9 hours. This year I’ll be lining up for the 10th time onboard the @betamotor_sa 300 X-Pro and it’s been a hell of a journey in between.

Swipe to check out 1 photo from each year ➡️

2013 - The first one. 17 years old, no gummy tyres, no electric start, hard mousses & no idea what I was in for. It rained the whole weekend and I was the last finisher in the Gold class.

2014 - The long one. I’m pretty sure we did a 200km day this year and I rode in the wrong direction for over an hour on day 1. Not lekker.

2015 - Clutch kept burning out and Mom gave me cataphlam to help with cramps. Don’t try new stuff on race day.

2016 - A lot of international riders this year, still remember how cool it felt to ride with them for the first time.

2017 - First and last time we’ve had snow at the Roof and my second 11th place finish in a row. 11th is a kak position to be in.

2018 - First time on the box. You’ll never forget that one.

2019 - A race for the podium from start to finish. Beat Jarvis by 2 seconds over 3 days of racing for 3rd place

A full circle moment and probably the best of my riding career

2023 - After 4 years stepping back from the sport we privateered our way to a 7th at one of the hardest Roof’s I’ve done. The race day was so long that a group of us stopped racing to find a shop and buy something to drink.

2025 - Raced sick and spent the whole race in no man’s land behind the front group and in front of the chasing group. Definitely left this one wanting more than I was able to give.
