FIVE BOOKS EVERYONE SHOULD READ ONCE

Tagged by @ashleyfinamorereads for this one, and I know everyone is absolutely stunned to see The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings here….

Take a moment. Recover.

The Hobbit — J.R.R. Tolkien
The Lord of the Rings — J.R.R. Tolkien
Malice — John Gwynne
Gardens of the Moon — Steven Erikson
The Way of Kings — Brandon Sanderson

Tolkien gets two spots because I said so

Malice kicked off one of my favorite fantasy series, Gardens of the Moon has turned into one of the best surprises of my reading year, and The Way of Kings is basically Sanderson asking for 1,000 pages of trust and somehow earning it... along with five rereads!😅

So yeah, not exactly a subtle list of my fantasy biases.

Tagging some peeps to show me their five!

📚 FRIDAY FLATLAY: OCTOBER HAUL 📚

Thirty.💚

I would like to begin by saying that this is not a fair representation of my usual book-buying habits. October is my birthday month, and the vast majority of these beauties were gifted to me by some incredibly generous people who apparently know exactly how to make me happy. That being said... THIRTY BOOKS?!

I knew I’d been thoroughly spoiled for my birthday, and I knew I’d treated myself to a few books along the way (because obviously), but seeing them all together has made me realise just how ridiculous this month’s haul actually is. And before anyone asks, no, I do not have the shelf space. We are well beyond the point of pretending that’s a consideration when acquiring more books. 😂

But what makes this flatlay particularly special is how many of these books came from people I love. Every time I look at this ridiculous pile, I’m reminded of the wonderful friendships I’ve made and just how lucky I am to have such thoughtful humans in my life.

So yes, October has been a spectacular month for my bookshelves. Less spectacular for their structural integrity, perhaps, but we’ll worry about that later.
Now please tell me I’m not the only one whose birthday month completely destroys their book-buying statistics. 😂

🏷️ Tagged more of you, but don’t feel pressured… I just want to see what you’ve acquired this month! 👀

Love,
Vamps 💚

I finished the Farseer Trilogy, and this is what I thought of it… 🐺 🐺 🐺

I suffer from forgetfulness when it comes to books, but if I loved a book, the feelings and the characters stick with me. I’m not sure I’ll ever forget these characters and how I felt through this book.

Have you heard these books are slow? They are. Somehow, they still managed to grip me entirely.

Assassin’s Apprentice felt so much like Great Expectations to me, with Fitz reminding me of Pip. And the pacing is similar as well as the purpose. A deep, slow dive into characters. I fell so completely in love with Fitz, the Fool and Verity. I hated the villain so much I fumed.

Royal Assassin was a slow start for me. At times I grew frustrated, and then at the end, I felt like I saw the book through a whole new set of eyes. Scenes with characters that once made me mad, became such clear moments of character development once I saw where we ended. And speaking of ending… ‼️‼️‼️I will never forget the way the Royal Assassin ending made me feel. I was in tears and amped up at the same time. I cried just telling my husband about the epilogue. It was beautifully heartbreaking and powerful! So powerful!

The themes of loneliness, grief and looking for a sense of belonging are so profound that I feel like anyone who has experienced any of those sentiments will relate to Fitz and root for him whole-heartedly.

I will admit that I struggled a little in Assassin’s Quest, but I loved the ending and the completion of these character arcs. In my mind, I’ve made my own decisions of what these characters went on to do, because I just can’t stop thinking about them, and I love them so much.

I cannot wait for Liveships. I may have indulged in a special edition so I hope I love it as much! Thank you @sisterofthesonofares and @jieunreads for kickstarting this journey, even if you coaxed me with the promise of a steamy, romantic slow burn 🤣🫠

Have you read Farseer? Any plans? What’s the last book that made you feel the way royal assassin made me feel?

Happy Monday! My life has been taken over by the Bloodsworn Saga and I couldn’t be happier about that. I can’t believe we’re on the last book of this series. Everything is ramping up in the best way possible. I finished American Rapture and had so much fun chatting with @ashleyfinamorereads about the book. As you can see I’m on a C.J. Leede kick.

📺 I’ve been watching Love is Blind Netherlands and US. Usually I’m the only person I know watching this show, but this time I actually have @esmayrosalyne to share all my thoughts with. I love reality tv lolz. I’ve also been blowing through Abbott Elementary which might become one of my new favorite shows.

Books Mentioned
✨The Shadow of the Gods | John Gwynne | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
✨The Hunger of the Gods | John Gwynne | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
✨American Rapture | C.J. Leede | ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.50

Spouse Stack!

❔What’s something you want your best friend to experience??

I got tagged by @the_bookish_wife_life to do a spouse stack so I decided to do one with both books and games!

The prompt: What are five things off my shelf you’d read/play based of the title alone?

Swipe through to see a brief explanation about why she picked them!

#spousestack #wow #gamestagram #bookstagram #stackattack

Werewolf Lawyer
I like werewolf romance though I don’t think that is what this is about

The Rise That Grew From Concrete
Tupac. I’m an English major. I use TRTGFC in my curriculum and students really like it

The Legend of Uh
The title is just like “what”

Grave Empire
I like the title, the font, and the vibes of the cover. It’s probably not going to be a romantasy but still

11/22/63
I’ve always thought this historical event is interesting

Rugrats
I mean Rugrats obviously

Plucky Squire
Makes me think of Shakespeare

Mafia
Love mafia romance so I hope it’ll be hot

Life Is Strange
Life really is strange. And true colors makes me think there’s queer representation

It Takes Two
It makes me think of the 90s Mary Kate and Ashley movie

SHELFIE SUNDAY

I’ve been fully embracing Spooktober this month, but apparently that also means my actual TBR has become more of a loose suggestion than usual…

I’ve been mood reading all over the place lately, and one of my little secret projects has been Malazan!

I didn’t really know how that was going to go when I started it, but somewhere along the way it became one of my favorite things I’m reading right now. I’m completely sucked into it and I cannot wait to keep going deeper into that world!

I feel like autumn and winter always do this to me. The second the weather changes I start ignoring plans and just grabbing whatever sounds good off the shelf.

Does anyone else have a time of year where the mood reading gets especially bad? Because, apparently mine starts with falling leaves and ends sometime around spring

IN MY HORROR ERA

Well... apparently this is a thing now

I’ve accrued myself a nice little horror nest egg and I’m enjoying this way more than I expected to. Duma Key was a 5 star read for me and I think what really got me was the mystery side of King’s writing mixed in with the spooky stuff. I could not put that book down.

I was also fortunate enough to win @the_dragon_reread giveaway for The Buffalo Hunter Hunter. Yes, no collusion. It just felt extremely well timed with me deciding to finally stop being a chicken and read some horror.

Then Ash helped me score this awesome edition of Frankenstein, because apparently everyone has decided to enable Horror Drew now and honestly... I’m fine with it.

The weird part is I still cannot do horror movies or TV. Absolutely not. But apparently give me the same thing in book form and I’m having a great time?!? Idk…

Anyone else have this problem? Or am I just built specifically for written nightmares?
