Where the gentle beauty and songs of cardinals come to life in a quiet, heartfelt symphony ❤️

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I watched these cardinals do this for a long time yesterday during a rain shower. One would fly down to the feeder, get birdseed and take it to the one sitting on top of the pole. I've never seen birds do this before, have you ? (The video is a little blurry because I was filming through the rain falling)

Female Northern Cardinals may not have the bold red of the males, but their soft browns and warm reds glow beautifully against fresh snow. Winter light has a way of making subtle colors shine.

Basic Facts: Northern #cardinals enjoy various foods:
- Bugs (small percentage of diet)
- Corn
- Fruit (Apples, Grapes, Mulberries & Dogwood Berries)
- Millet
- Milo
- Oats
- Peanuts
- Safflower
- Sap (especial in Canada!)
- Sunflower

I see my Northern #cardinal neighbors enjoying sunflower seeds, corn & peanuts mostly!🌻🌽🥜

They are some of my most diverse #birdies diet wise but still mostly plant-based.

Fun Fact: Northern #cardinals have many informal names, such as:
- “common cardinal”
- “cardinal grosbeak”
- “red-bird” (a little too descriptive right???) 😂
- “cardinal-bird”
- “cardinal redbird”
- “crested redbird”
- “top-knot redbird” 😂
- “Virginia redbird”
- “Virginia nightingale”

If there’s one of these informal names I like, it’s “cardinal grosbeak” because it’s a great way to remember so many #grosbeak species in the #cardinal family! I’ve seen two grosbeak species in my neighborhood that are vary different from Northern cardinals yet part of the same family.

Fun Fact: There are two other #Cardinal species in the “Cardinalis” genus:
- Desert Cardinal (Found in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and the woodlands of Mexico!)
- Vermillion Cardinal (Found only in small parts of Columbia and Venezuela!)

At first, sense Vermillion #cardinals are only found in small parts of Columbia & Venezuela, I was worried they might at risk. But luckily all three species are considered “least threatened”.

I like finding out which #bird species are part of the same genus. So many genuses have different numbers of #birds!

Fun Fact: Not all Northern #cardinal #feathers are red. Most of their smaller feathers are gray toward the bottom with only a small amount red at the top.

Spotted a northern cardinal in Hawaii and had to pair it with Taylor’s cardigan — because clearly, both deserve a moment. 😌🎶

Fun (but heartbreaking) fact: these stunners aren’t found in the Pacific Northwest… so this island cameo felt extra special. ✨
