I went to my first Stiff Drinks hosted by @mtvernoncemetery and @sixfeetundersociety this summer. Unfortunately, I had a horror-themed burlesque show that overlapped, so I couldn’t stay for the trivia. But I dragged my IKEA full of baby dolls and fake blood into a sold-out room, kicked back, and learned about the pre-Christian burial traditions of rural Poland.

In that moment I knew strongly felt this would be the collab of my dreams. I was over the moon when @mtvernoncemetery reached out about creating Feed Your Head Body Horror Fest. Satan works in mysterious ways 😊

At Feed Your Head you will have a panel of experts on the subject of body horror (like Stiff Drinks!)

A slew of local vendors

And body-horror inspired burlesque performances featuring the some of the best in the biz, each of whom has immensely inspired my craft along the way.

This is truly a grotesque labor of love we cant wait to share with you. Grab those tickets and join us 10/28 @lovecitymanayunk

Burlesque has never been particularly interested in following the rules. For generations, performers have used dance, comedy and the art of the tease to challenge expectations of beauty and self-expression. The feathers and rhinestones may catch your attention, but much of its charm comes from the personalities behind them and the freedom to be a little outrageous.

At @capitalcitymusichall in Harrisburg, @savage_cabaret Burlesque Invasion gave classic burlesque an extraterrestrial twist. Vintage glamour met science fiction in a production that welcomed the strange and unusual.

@margotstarlux, @ashantidoll @foxemartin @anjakeister @caressedeville and @peetie_esdee the Clown made up @savage_cabaret Harrisburg lineup, with @kalicoutour hosting. Part of the fun of burlesque is seeing how differently artists can interpret the same art form, bringing their own personalities and creative sensibilities to the stage.

A knowing glance or the anticipation of a costume reveal can be just as entertaining as the reveal itself. Much of burlesque depends on timing and the performer’s ability to keep an audience guessing.

Burlesque leaves plenty of room to play with expressions of gender and sexuality. Sensuality doesn’t always need to take itself seriously, either. A performance can be ridiculous one moment and genuinely captivating the next.

@savage_cabaret gave Harrisburg its own version of an alien invasion. If the extraterrestrials were looking for an evening of mischief, they picked the right place to land.
