Gone Too Far

Big news! I built a photography studio and @cargosband were the first band to have a photoshoot shoot in the studio space.

As a band they have an epic sound and when asked to get step inside the studio, let me blind them with a big flash camera whilst they mosh out to their latest single ‘gone too far’ they were more than happy to be oblige.

Here are the results

Cargos

Over the past few months I’ve been very fortunate to work with @cargosband a true homegrown Sheffield band with a solid sound and great charismatic bunch of characters.

These guys are a dream to shoot, you never know what angle, environment or context you will be shooting which for me adds to the enjoyment and creative process.

Portraits:
Archie - Frontman
Connor - Guitar
Jadon - Bass
Evan - Guitar
Zak - Drums

A key mention to @joshua_hargreaves from @aggressivemanagement who are always great to collaborate with on projects.

Cargos are a band that have been grafting away in the Sheffield scene over the last 12 months, and it’s certainly starting to pay off. Since releasing their debut single Incomplete back in December, they’ve been making some serious waves, including a massive headline show at Yellow Arch and supporting Matilda Shakes at The Foundry just last weekend.

They’re a band that have kept crossing our radar, so when we saw they had another single on the way, I was excited to hear how the lads were progressing.

The song opens with an absolutely sleazy guitar riff that gradually builds into a frenzy, and straight away you know you’re in for something good. The verses feel restrained but wonderfully sludgy, which contrasts brilliantly against the chorus as everything starts to let loose.

There’s a real mixture of influences here. I was getting flashes of Queens of the Stone Age, The Subways and Humbug era Arctic Monkeys, with maybe even a little Black Sabbath thrown in for good measure. Not to mention owner sounds like The kairos It’s a cool blend of sounds, but the band manage to bring them together into something with plenty of their own personality.

What I particularly like is how the instrumentation keeps building. There’s a real sense of momentum throughout, and rather than just relying on the riffs to do all the heavy lifting, the dynamics give the song some serious bite.

And then we get to that solo. (And boy do we!)

The way everything builds afterwards into the final chorus and outro is just chef’s kiss. Absolute carnage, guitars flying everywhere, and I am absolutely here for it!

What can I say? Cargos are a band whose reputation has been growing rapidly, and listening to this, it’s not difficult to understand why. Great riffs, loads of attitude and a sound that’s only getting stronger.

The hype is real, and these lads are definitely ones to keep an eye on.

Go check them out immediately!
