Artist. Storyteller. Jack of all trades.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

COFIO: We are collecting memories of Capel Rhondda, atgofion of Tre | hopkins | town...

...collecting stories of cariad and heartache, of ysgol and work, of hiraeth and joy.

As part of our Bara’r Nefoedd project with Arts Council Wales, we would love to invite anyone with a connection to Capel Rhondda or the surrounding area to come and join artist and storyteller, Stephen Hanks to sit down yn y Capel for a sgwrs (chat), a cuppa and maybe even a sweet treat of pice ar y maen (welsh cakes).

Maybe you were married yn y capel, or you met your cariad outside the Spar, or used to be drwg and get told off for running through the lanes behind the houses before buying pop at Lina and Pat's… we’d love to hear your stories.

These will be one-to-one conversations and you could chat in Cymraeg or English, so drop us a DM or email croeso@capelrhondda.cymru to arrange a date and time.

I’ve had a few influential father figures came and passed away in my life. My Dad, my Uncle Al. Beautiful souls.

Teddy was the one that taught me practical skills though. When it came to doing up my own family home with Stephen @cariadstephen my co-conspirator & home-making partner, we never would have gotten confidence and independence to do it without Teddy.

It was a perfect match as far as I was concerned. We brought the originality and flair, Teddy brought the glued-and-screwed strength and sturdiness.

We brought the wood we’d found in a skip, Teddy brought the patience needed to sand it down to perfection.

We brought the enthusiasm of youth, Teddy brought the dogged determination to keep working until it was done.

I am nothing but grateful for those times we spent together:- the skills, surprises, arguments, screws between the toes and sawdust hidden behind the skirting, the creativity, obsession, early mornings and late nights. The duty, dirty jokes and cold cups of tea. A time when we all had a shared purpose for a while.

But the beautiful human ability to stare at blank walls and pour your great imagination into the world and make things! That still requires some physical capability to do that. When Teddy lost that ability, the world was a frustrating place to be in.

Thanks for the making times Teddy, we’ll miss you. X

Christmas message from the Parc arts team:

We were so disappointed to have to cancel this years “Carols by candleMIC”; it is one of the highlights of our Christmas season. Thankfully we have a little Christmas offering that encapsulates all the cosy joy of that event. We hope you enjoy this video, please share, like, comment and help us spread a little Christmas joy.

Our Christmas seasons can feel so far away from a “Silent night”; with busyness, stress, illness and relational conflict.

But hold fast dear friends: we’re sure that first Christmas was far from a silent night too.

May your Christmas be gentle, kind and hope filled. May you hold onto all that is light and good.

And never forget that here at Parc Arts our door is always open to you (metaphorically speaking that is! We’re closed now until 8th Jan).

Thanks to the fantastically talented @cariadstephen for designing and creating this masterpiece.
With creative talents of @jessicamorganmusic @hazelandgrey @matthewfrederickmusic @cayshaleigh @sunshineandrainduo @jamiebsings @nateorrmusic @jeffjapers , Stephen & Alice, The Emeralds & Gerhard Kress

A few snaps from the Our Morfydd open evening down at Pontypridd Library.

It has been our pleasure here at Parc arts to curate the “Our Morfydd” exhibition (with the fantastic @lois.adams.artist ) as part of the @gwylmorfyddowenfestival

Many local artists submitted works across a range of mediums; from photography to fabric, we had it all. All responding to musical work by Morfydd Owen.
It’s a beautiful collection of work by local artists about a local artist.
And it is open until the 29th October so get yourselves over to Pontypridd library to have a look.
