| The memories may soften with time. The love never does 💜

And I know this to be true in my own life, too. My dad may no longer be here, but the love between us hasn't changed. The way he raised me, the values he passed on to me, and everything he taught me are still part of who I am today. In so many ways, I carry a little piece of him with me every single day, and I hope he can see how I'm doing my best to navigate life, just as he taught
me 🤍

Wishing everyone a good start to the week! Mine comes with a little countdown because it's FINALLY my last work week before my trip to LA next week. I especially can't wait to be back in my happy place Santa Monica. It may be just for one week but it's always the highlight of my year. And God knows I need it. It's been a mentally exhausting year. Just a few more days to get through 🌴☀️🤍

| While working on my birthday project for a certain someone, I happened to capture this beautiful moment from 2016. It lasted less than a second but the way they smile at each other says everything 💜

| Alzheimer's affects millions of people worldwide - not only those living with the disease, but also the families, friends, and caregivers who walk beside them every day.

Today, on World Alzheimer's Day, I'm thinking of Carla Ferrigno, of Shanna and Lou, and of the countless families navigating this disease every day.

From everything Shanna and Lou have shared, I've learned that Carla dedicated so much of her life to helping others find their voice and making sure their stories mattered. The more I learn about her, the more I realize what a blessing it was to have someone like her in this world.

I never had the privilege of knowing Carla personally, but I'm certain I could have learned so much from her.

Her compassion, strength, and commitment to helping others continue to inspire people far beyond those who knew her personally.

Through @carlas_turn, that legacy lives on by supporting families, caregivers, and Alzheimer's awareness.

Alzheimer's may change memories, but it cannot erase the love, wisdom, and impact a person leaves behind. Those are valuable lessons Carla's Turn reminds us of, and they continue to reach and inspire others.

And I think that's something really beautiful 💜

| September is World Alzheimer's Month 💜

For many people, Alzheimer's is more than a diagnosis. It's watching someone they love slowly change while still holding on to the person they've always been.

Through Carla's story and @carlas_turn, I've learned more about this disease than I ever would have otherwise. That's why I'm using this month to help raise awareness, even in a small way.

| It's really special to watch Carla's Turn grow from an idea into something that is already helping so many people. It's amazing to see how much love, compassion and hope can grow from one woman's story 🤍💜

And can we talk about how much Lou and Carla look alike in this photo? Those smiles are practically identical 🥹💞

| Ever since Lou shared these words about his mom, they've reminded me how much of who we become is shaped by the people who believe in us, encourage us, and quietly teach us what really matters.

I hope this little edit does justice to such a beautiful tribute 🤍

Let's talk about...

Alzheimer's and dementia. Who isn’t familiar with these diseases that silently rob a person of their personality, leaving their loved ones in shock? It steals memories, erases names and transforms the person who once remembered family history, anniversaries and childhood milestones into someone who no longer recognizes their loved ones. Family members suddenly find themselves navigating doctors' visits, forgotten stories, and the slow unraveling of the person who taught them how to love, endure and dream. It’s a terrible disease. Often, these people begin to live in the past. How are you coping with it?

Correcting them can increase confusion in these people. Sally Hepworth’s The Things We Leave Behind offers some useful insights into dementia patients and their caregivers.

We also recommend visiting @carlas_turn Siblings Shanna Ferrigno and her brother, actor Lou Ferrigno Jr., joined forces to create something special. Following the death of their beloved mother (who was diagnosed with Alzheimers a few years back) earlier this year, they transformed their tremendous loss and grief into something lasting and meaningful. Rather than keeping it private, they began channeling their pain into a purpose.

They are raising awareness, funding research, speaking openly about the long shadow Alzheimer’s casts on families and honoring the woman who was their rock. Above all, they are offering support to other families facing this devastating diagnosis.

That's when Shanna became her mom's caregiver. As a mother of toddler twins, with one on the spectrum, it was quite a different and challenging task. Shanna provides insight into her daily struggles and the obstacles she had to deal with. What began as heartbreak slowly became a legacy of its own: advocacy that reached beyond red carpets and tabloid headlines, turning personal devastation into a quiet force for good. #shannaferrigno #louferrignojr #carlasturn #carlaferrigno #alzheimers #alzheimersawareness #dementia #theslowforgetting #caregivers #caregiversupport

No one talks about what caregiving does to the caregiver.

We celebrate the fighter. We pray for the patient. But the person quietly holding everything together? They’re often forgotten. 🫥

This week’s episode of @saucy.not.bossy is one of the most powerful conversations I’ve had.

@jessebrisendine opens up about caring for his partner, @theamandamelby , after her glioblastoma diagnosis. We talk about the grief that starts long before goodbye, the invisible weight caregivers carry, how caregiving changes your identity, and why hope and heartbreak can exist at the same time.

💜 1 in 5 U.S. adults is an unpaid caregiver. If that’s you—or someone you love—you need to hear this conversation.

If this episode moves you, please subscribe to @saucy.not.bossy, leave a review, and share it with someone who needs to know they aren’t carrying it alone.

| Every story shared through @carlas_turn reminds me that kindness, compassion and standing up for others never stop making a difference.

If more people acted the way Carla so very clearly did, the world would be a much kinder place.

Here's to Carla's beautiful legacy 🤍
