Awaken.
Not from slumber but from a thousand years of preparedness, awaiting.
The stone cracks.
Dust, the dust of those who were before us drops gently, falling to the ground.
The more layers are shed, the more humanity returns. We know not who we are. Nothing more than a collection of particles.
A moment in time.
Spontaneous, yet foreseen.
Divine, and mortal simultaneously.
Out of the ashes of what was, we shall be.
And then, when we too cease to exist and our duty is fulfilled, we shall transform.
Passing on the dust that created us to what is yet to come.
Never knowing the part we played.
Only knowing that we lived, truly lived.

This evening, “Vice Versa” returns to the stage of the Semperoper. Two striking contemporary works explore transformation and the relationship between humankind and nature.

In “Noetic“, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui reflects on humanity’s search for knowledge and our attempt to understand the universe through our own creations.
In “November“, which was created for the Semperoper Ballett by @imrevanopstal.marnevanopstal to music by Arvo Pärt, the invisible power of wind becomes visible through the interplay of bodies, light, and a huge floating fabric.

We wish all dancers, musicians, and everyone working on and behind the stage a wonderful evening and, as always, the best of luck!
