Today I got to hold my (advanced copy of my) book in my hands for the first time, and it’s crazy to think that back in 2022 I’d just got through to the final of a short story competition and I remember being on the tube somewhere with Carl and he was like “right, you’re gonna write a novel next and get published” and I was like yeah right mate bugger off and anyway as usual he was right cos after four years and a not insignificant amount of graft (and even more advice and support) I’m holding the fecking thing in my mitts aren’t i! So there you go. Anyway after I left the office today with my books in my bag I tripped on the pavement and absolutely stacked it so I guess that’s the universe saying yeah pal, don’t get too big for your boots- stop posting goofy pics with your book and get another one written! So yeah me and my bleeding knee will get on and do that then. Anyway scroll across for bonus pics of my favourite chapter title and Carl looking really happy with himself and probably with a renewed belief in the power of manifestation

The Arab Film Club recently marked its sixth birthday, and we got together at the Bush Theatre to celebrate!

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate 6 years of The Arab Film Club!

It was wonderful to mark this moment together by watching four beautiful (and funny!) Arab films. Thank you @mozediah, @soudade_kaadan, @luayawwad and @kaoutherbenhania for allowing us to present your life-affirming work to a packed auditorium at The Bush Theatre.

Thank you @jaffabakehouse for the delicious specially made cake complete with photos from our screenings and events printed on top!

We started back in July 2020 when just 6 of us met online for the first time to read Returning To Haifa by Ghassan Kanafani. We didn’t know back then it would develop into a hundred-strong film club.

The screening and party on Saturday marked our 80th event! And we can’t wait to do more…

Next Narrative Africa Fund (NNAF) has unveiled its first development slate, picking 9 projects from 2,000+ submissions to industrialise the African narrative. Bold, commercially savvy, and unapologetically global, here’s what’s coming:

▪️Beyond Day Zero (South Africa | Action) – Produced by Trevor Noah, written by Amy Jephta, rebellion against a wealthy tycoon’s Wall.

▪️Innocent (Nigeria | Mystery/Thriller) – Directed by Arie & Chuko Esiri, a Lagos ‘whodunnit’.

▪️Skunk (South Africa | Action/Drama) – Written/directed by Amanda Lane, starring Thuso Mbedu, fashion models heist to reclaim ancestral land.

▪️Untitled Political Thriller/Drama (Sierra Leone/UK) – Directed by Rapman, a young soldier thrust into power after a bloodless coup.

▪️United States of Africa (Ghana | TV Series | Action/Spy Thriller) – Created by Carl Kwesi Earl-Ocran, a CIA-KGB-MI6 proxy war sparks Africa’s first spy agency.

▪️Bako (Nigeria | Romance/Sci-Fi) – Directed by Boma Iluma, love and society collide amid alien tech’s rise.

▪️The Return (Ghana | Comedy/Horror) – Written/directed by Zoey Martinson, Gen Z friends disrespect an ancient deity; survival becomes a supernatural reckoning.

▪️About Love & September Laws (Sudan | Drama) – Written by Mohamed Kordofani & Khaled Alwaleed, love and resistance under 1983 Sharia Law.

▪️Jollof Wars (Nigeria | Comedy/Fantasy/Musical) – Directed by Hamid Ibrahim, an orphan and heiress reclaim West African cuisine from erasure.
