In 2019, I was invited to write and teach an elective at the Department of Architecture and Design at the American University of Beirut. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀? invites students to reposition themselves from consumers to agents in bordering systems that design their worlds.

Teaching this course was probably the most joyful thing I did at the time. Watching students experiment and expand their truths is an unparalleled thrill. And I’m super happy the department invited us to publish it as a book!

Mainly put together by the students themselves, the 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀? print highlights their research, texts, some reading excerpts and transcripts of conversations with guest speakers that visited to discuss how their work complicates existing boundaries and builds new publics in art and politics.
