"How can I see you if all you are is invisible?"

This zine brings into question how Western notions of "beauty" or "ugliness" cater toward a system of invisibility and a reification of harmful, normative connotations of "beauty" that subjugate certain bodily features like hair, skin texture, or body fat.
Within this system, readings of features that are linked to "ugliness" often ascribe a certain identity or traits to a person that does not fit into or submit to normative "beauty standards" that demand compliance through an alteration of a natural state of existence.

The zine additionally encourages to reflect on - potentially ambivalent - feelings that are attached to the in-/visibility that come with hiding or embracing these features.

Created during a workshop on ugliness with @mooshtariii
Exhibited in "Selber Schuld" with @die_grafikklasse

Igitt Vorstellung 2: @caroaroroo

In her work, Carolin Wille combines objects and symbols of kitschy and cheap-looking consumer goods through photographs and found objects. Nostalgia, hope, and memory are glued together to form collages and room installations.

The group exhibition Fever Dreams presents works by the students of the class for Free Drawing and Printmaking at Muthesius University of Fine Arts and Design in Kiel (Germany). They unfold a multi-voiced panorama between inner images and external realities, between individual experience and collective present.
The works range from personal dream sequences to the pressing question of whether, in the face of ongoing crises and daily horrors, we are still living in reality – or already trapped in a shared nightmare. Distorted forms, monstrous figures, and flickering lights mark these thresholds and become symbols of an unsettled perception.
Fever Dreams sees itself as an artistic exploration of the liminal zones where reality and illusion, fear and hope, dusk and dawn merge.

With works by:
Fanny Benjes, Rosan Catteuw, Jurek Eger, Carolina Fischer, Klara Kamphues, Tagir Khashaev, Theo Konrad, Malin Körner, Kaddy Krüger, Emil Hannibal Menz, Rieke Pahlplatz, Anders Prey, Lea Schöning, Lillith Stoeckicht, David Wassermann, Carolin Wille, Tian Wu
Organized by @barbaraluedde (acting professor of Free Drawing and Printmaking) @die_grafikklasse

MONSTRUMZ entstand im Rahmen des Seminars „How (not) to be political“ von @adleremma <3
