Last summer, I was an artist-in-residence at @art_omi ghent, New York in the US. This summer, I’m finally posting about it. Only took me a year. Fragments from Gallery performance, one of the performances I was part of there, finally edited and released from the depths of my camera roll. Art Omi, summer 2025. Together with @graceytong @hkostas8 @chloelondondance Jesus Velasco Mondragon Mentored by @christopherkaui @carohoehner Jeremy De’jon Guyton Art Omi: Dance Showing 2025. Video: Adam T. Deen. The Philosophy of Chuma Chuma Workshop is not only about sharing movements and letting others reflect on them. It’s about connecting our human bodies, our movements and our histories. It draws from the essence of nature and culture, especially unbounded culture, the kind that brings people together in harmony and rhythm. I feel privileged to have grown up in a city where unity and community are part of our natural way of life. Wherever I am, I carry these stories and share them through dance. It was a joy to share my experiences with my new family during the Art OMI: Dance Residency 2025. The next Chuma Chuma Workshop will be in Berlin 🙌🏾 Stay tuned ✨🫶🏾 ~ Tadhi Alawi

A few in-between moments from an experience that has instantly changed my life @art_omi @christopherkaui @_de_jon_ @carohoehner your leadership and impact has planted seeds that will continue to grow for years to come. Thank you for this; who you are and what you bring are truly a gift. I could not be more grateful to know you and to have been a part of this.🧡 Our time outside of the studio was just as valuable and informative to this process as our time spent in the studio creating and collaborating; we connected and it mattered. This week I found myself missing these 12 people throughout my days, and that has been both wonderful and bittersweet to realize. 🫂 #dance #residency #artomi #artomidance #OMigwad #collaboration #omiwithdrawl

📝Your body remembers more than you think. Once the floor work technique warmed up the body and awakened the sense of movement, we stepped into another dimension, my own practice I’m developing and exploring called “Body as Archive". It’s a space where a new dance vocabulary is born, and creativity becomes not just an exercise, but a state of being. Here, movements turn into words, and the body is an endless stash of memories and ideas. ✨ We open the door to the body like it’s a historic library, holding memories, emotions, experiences, and even forgotten moves. This practice is about exploring your own memory through dance. About how stories stored in the body can say more than words. And yeah, here depth always goes hand in hand with play, because the truest discoveries happen when movement is free.

💃🕺At Art Omi Ghent, New York @art_omi , we totally flipped the idea of “discipline” on its head literally. Floor work technique with zero serious faces but all the serious vibe. ✨I just love it when everyone’s laughing, shouting, goofing around, and having a blast during workshops and trainings. To me, that’s the sign of a good class. Dead silence? That’s a fail. You don’t always have to take things super seriously, sometimes you gotta play, have fun, and just enjoy the process. That’s when the work really starts to bring joy and satisfaction. ✨In my floor work class, we really got into feeling weight, inertia, and support but all done lightly and with excitement. Because dance isn’t just about control and discipline; it’s about laughter, taking risks, and that moment when you let go of seriousness and find freedom. When you play, the body learns faster than the mind. Check out these amazing people I spent three weeks of summer with 🥹✨ ________________ 💃🕺У Арт Омі Ghent, New York @art_omi ми перевернули поняття «дисципліна» з ніг на голову буквально.
