Please check out the latest episode of my YouTube series Nomad: The World Is My Beat. For once, I had time to check out the city I usually only visit for work. I did this through a dance festival, innovative yoga studios, a ballet school, canal swimming, and an 800-year-old suburb called Diemen. Journalists follow people. Nobody follows the journalist. Until now.

This is Nomad: The World Is My Beat, and I’m taking you with me on YouTube with my series.

We’ve walked the red carpet at Cannes and slipped backstage at Fashion Week. We’ve gone first class across Switzerland, settled into a villa on the Baltic coast, and gone back to Berlin after 25 years. We’ve even found out what happens when you show up at a film festival without a badge.

We’ve covered Los Angeles from Hollywood to the fires, and from Waacking to the Horton technique, the dance styles it gave the world. I’ve even jumped off a luxury cruise ship into Tijuana to follow a migrant caravan.

We’ve gone inside my dad’s garden shed, and into the biggest scandal at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem in living memory.

Wherever the story is, we’ve got you covered.

Subscribe, and follow the journalist. Link in bio.

🏆What a thrill to attend the @theacademy New Member reception. It’s been a whirlwind the past few weeks! Becoming an Academy member was definitely on my bucket list but it seemed very far away. What a beautiful manifestation of a dream. 🥰 I enjoyed working at the Academy 10 years ago with my dear friend @bettina.fisher11 in the education department and it was truly a joy to be able to celebrate this moment with her and some of my other friends, creatives and colleagues. @farrahfazal @effiet.brown @kathryn_bostic Definitely a night to remember. Thank you 👉🏽@dmasslion @karamuu @sweet_sue_shine @hollywoodshorts I am so grateful to be here. And to continue creating and supporting other filmmakers as I make my dreams come true. And of course, thank you to the Academy 😉🖤🙏🏽🫶🏽 #grateful #shortfilms #theacademy #dreambig (short films branch) #manifestation 💝 @supermandoesntstealfilm @makeafilmfoundation Thanks @carolannshine @chrisbealprods

🖤Y’all what a beautiful gathering my friends gifted me to celebrate my membership into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (Short Film Branch) @theacademy 🙏🏽 So many good souls showed up to remind me how lucky and loved I am. 💝Deepest gratitude to @carolannshine @bettina.fisher11 and @camilleetucker for putting together a truly wonderful event that I will treasure forever. To hear my friends & peers share their experience of me in such a lovely way was so moving and truly touched my heart. 💖A few surprise guests and many folks who are near & dear to me. And although some folks were not physically present - they were definitely there in spirit. So much love, laughter and support. 🥳 Champagne & Chili - you can’t go wrong with that. 🍾🥂🫕 As for the Chili - my southern relatives would say- “Carol, you put your foot in it!” yum😋 And we got the added bonus of being able to toast, congratulate and celebrate my dear friend and fellow @americanfilminstitute alum - the incomparable @hanelleculpepper who is nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Directing in a Drama Series for “Paradise”! Being able to connect with friends and celebrate some of our wins made for a truly special night. 🫶🏽Will share more Emmy love for Hanelle on a separate post. 🖤Ya’ll today, I was invited into the short film branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. I was thrilled when I found out. Honored doesn’t quite encompass it. I will try to find my words. The moment has powerful meaning for me because I was hired to work at The Academy 10 years ago and today I was invited to be a member. Apparently vision boards are fluid because I thought I could cross The Academy off since I worked there 😅 and had so many cool experiences, including getting to go to the Oscars (I was working- but still!) and having a packed & unforgettable red carpet screening of our @makeafilmfoundation film “The Black Ghiandola” for Anthony Conti at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre. Apparently the vision is still unfolding, and I am here for it. 🎥🎞️I’ve been making short films for a long time, through my nonprofit, and as an indie filmmaker. For myself and others. My most personal short film, @supermandoesntstealfilm “Superman Doesn’t Steal” had an Oscar qualified run and though it was not nominated, the magical journey continues. I want to thank my entire Cast & crew of that film. (Shout out to producers: @chrisbealprods , @carolannshine @mrdomdeleon and to my brother @thereallamison So many people to thank. Well- the @theacademy of course! Profoundly grateful to @karamuu and @dmasslion for their support of me and all of my work, seeing me, believing in me and translating all of that into real action by sharing their knowledge of me and my work when it mattered most. Huge thanks to @bettina.fisher11 (one of my BFF’s) and Randy Haberkamp for hiring me all those years ago, and giving me the opportunity to contribute in incredible ways to the Academy Gold program and the Spark program. Thank you to all of the members of the short film branch who were in my corner. And everyone who inspired, encouraged & continues to cheer me on with this milestone, including but not limited to: My family and friends, @bgproudfoot @hollywoodshorts @filmfatalesorg @effiet.brown and @asantewaolatunji I appreciate you all. #grateful #academy #shortfilms #dreambig and keep creating! 🙏🏽🎥🥂🍾🥳‼️Wow Ancestors!👏🏽@marthapatricialamison @ridebackrise
