POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

One last time, for now… the full list of tap dance organizations at colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and even one in Egypt! Two new groups have been added since the last update.

FYI: These organizations are either student run, faculty-run, or embedded within the theatre and dance departments at these respective schools.

⚠️ THE USUAL REMINDER:: Not all of these groups are strictly tap dance-focused; there are a few that offer all styles of dance but don’t focus only on tap. They do, however, present a great opportunity for tap dancers to jump in and create and perform tap pieces. Regardless, there really does need to be more ensembles that are solely (see what I did there?) focused on tap.

Remember, this list will continue to be updated over time as more groups get created over time (or if I discover any others I hadn’t previously mentioned!). Please take fifteen minutes of your time and watch this video. If you know of any others but don’t see it in this slide show, please leave a comment in the comments section with that group’s instagram handle (if they have one), and I will of course add it to the next update!

Once again, a CALL TO ACTION for all tap dancers who are currently in college or are about to start college:

If your school does not have a tap club or ensemble on campus, I strongly, STRONGLY encourage you to explore ways to start one of your own. It is highly important not just for you, but for anyone and everyone on your campus who is as passionate and dedicated to tap dance as you are. Don’t just do this for yourselves; do it for other people. Be selfless with your art and your craft. But most importantly, do it for the art form! It’s one way to make sure the art spreads and gets passed down from person to person, from generation to generation. 💜

And in a time when tap dance is not as visible or accessible on college campuses as it should be, the presence of these ensembles is HIGHLY vital for passionate tap dancers.

SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW. WITH CAROLINA COMPETITIVE DANCE CLUB. CHOREOGRAPHED BY ME.

This post is long overdue, but every day I am grateful for the amazing young women I have had the opportunity and pleasure of working beside, along with the amazing trust and support from @carolinacompetitive

There are no words to describe the overwhelming joy of seeing your first choreographed piece be performed to this level of professionalism. I may have given them the tools, but the group of girls I was gifted to work with have reached heights I have never imagined, and moved my piece into a story. Countless hours and long nights on campus to perfect and clean, and rehearsal after rehearsal, we always come together with a positive, determined attitude.

We created this piece with no tap shoes. Socks and sneakers in a campus gym floor. This was their first performance.

In this time, they have received the following accolades:
-Crystal Diamond adjudication at Inspire Dance Competition
-Golden Egg award (Inspire)
-Top Performer of Competitive Tap (Inspire)
-1st Place Overall in their division (Inspire)
-Platinum Elite Adjudication at Empire Dance Competition
-Judges Special Award (Empire)
-2nd Place Overall in their division (Empire)

By the end of this year, I was left absolutely speechless, and in tears in their final performance. We have become more than a competitive class, we are family. We lift each other up, help each other out, and support each other. If there is anything I am the most proud of, it is the community we have fostered in our Competitive Tap environment.

I am grateful and proud to announce that I will continue my position as the Competitive Tap Chair into the 2026-2027 school year, my second year in this chair, and my Junior year of university.

Thank you Carolina Competitive, thank you to my girls, and thank you to all that have supported me. I am forever appreciative. Let’s run it back this year <3
